It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....
MFH posted what his friend said and others have chimed in.
On the other side, you and others have pointed out that his friend's claims have not yet been backed up by valid news sources.
It looks to me like both sides are having their say on this thread and a rational person can make up his own mind.
If the thread gets out of hand, it can be yanked.
"This thread refers to four towns, supposedly with thousands of dead in trees and on beaches and in homes, all supposedly seen by one EMT/paramedic/nurse. Hard to imagine how one person could see so much in such a short time."
It was seared--seared!--into his memory, no doubt.
We just donated $100 to the Salvation Army.
The link to donate with a credit card is below. Even with a DSL link, it takes a lot of time to get to the site:

Thanks for the info. I would surely have to ask my husband and he'd be tough to convince. Our pastor is a hunter and has guns but I don't know if hubby would. Hmmm.
What do you mean by "out of hand?" Is it not allowed to call our rulers liars?
MFH thank you for the information you have provided, we need all the information we can get at this point.
As for those who are going on and on about this or that number , or it can or can't be that high please keep something in mind. All of us here know first reports from anyone in an area are subject to change, be wildly exaggerated, or completely right.
Given this I suggest we all take a step back & wait to see what comes out. Theres no need to jump on someone here for reporting what he/she has recieved as a report from the region from someone they know.
We are all in this together & I'm sure none of us want to see the number of dead rise, I'm sure we can all agree we wish no one had died in this. But fighting amoungst ourselves over what the number of the dead will be is simply sick.
So please let's just pray for those who have been lost & for those who have made it through. If we hear something from a friend or family member we should post it, if the news turns out to not be true then at least we will know better after that but we are all just trying to keep each other informed.
Again let's all settle down & see what happens before we go off on each other or try to discredit one another.
You think death and catastrophic destruction in humorous?
That "giant building" you are looking at is not a building at all, but a casino barge that was formerly in the water. The surge & wind moved it about 1/4 mile, to a spot formerly occupied by other buildings, now destroyed.
Agreed...but one jackass actually accused MFH of looking for 15 minutes of fame.
Headache's "hunches" have more credibilitly with me than a whole string of Sheehan advocates, but you don't see anyone screeching for iron-clad substantiation over her allegations.
Sure it's easy to say "get out of dodge" when you not poor, have homeowner's insurance, a car, credit cards, etc.
You shouldn't aplogize for being heartless. You will have an eternity to answer for that.
Remember that there was plenty of screeching for iron-clad proof when it was revealed in this forum that Dan Rather was selling a pure and rather cheap fabrication.
Thanks for the update. Now we'll wait to see if his reporting was indeed accurate.
You and others continue to mix up different issues.
"You think death and catastrophic destruction in humorous?"
We have one guy saying that his friend claims to have personally seen "thousands" of dead bodies.
We have a bunch of FReepers who are not only ready to believe it, but WANT to believe it. They desperately want there to be thousands of dead from this hurricane.
If that isn't a (tragically) humorous comment on the follies and foibles of mankind, please let me know what is.
Hey, dadadoody, welcome to FR!
I guess...
Appreciate you posting this.
Sorry about the rude posters.
Glad they are so badly outnumber here on FR.
I don't understand your question. I didn't say anything about rulers.
Sniff Sniff. Check aisle 1793, newbie accosting an old freeper.
Why are you pointing that out to me?
I didn't say I haven't been able to voice my opinion.
