Russia is ready to assist the United States in dealing with the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, which has taken 68 lives so far and left behind a tremendous amount of devastation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to U.S. President George Bush Tuesday.
"Russia deeply sympathizes with Americans, who faced a disaster of such a colossal scale, and is ready to offer necessary assistance," Putin said.
Putin asked Bush to extend his condolences to families and relatives of those killed in the disaster.
"Accept my sincere words of regret in connection with the natural calamity in the USA. I know that hurricane Katrina, which swept the southeast coast of the country, resulted in deaths, left tens of thousands of Americans without roofs over their heads, and caused substantial damage to the region's economy," the message said.
Ummmmm...you're right, I apologize. But then why were they always referred to as commies? Not being smart, just asking. Also, hasn't it always been said, the fall of communist Russia?
Either way, Socialism is the stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between Capitalism and Communism.
...the people of Iran are wonderful
I don't know that firsthand, only what I have read and now what you have said. I hope this is so. I was surprised at it being an "official statement".
I was surprised too... I don't know what to make of that part either.
Where are the French, Germans, MEXICANS and all the other so called "friends" in time of need. Canadians,...anybody out there?!
You're right. He showed class and where are the Mexicans?
Japan's been a loyal and worthy friend. I'm happy they're there for us...
The deafening sound coming from the Mexican border showes the hypocrisy of the Mexican Government.
Hey, Fox what about us?
We need a little help...
More labels than anything else, as I understand it, and that's been many years ago..
Actually, Russians were probably more communistic in practice than socialistic..
But Russia was a "Socialist Dictatorship", i.e., Stalinist, not strictly socialist.. Lenin and Stalin "hijacked" the worker's revolution..
The workers never got their shot at a socialist economy..
"From each according to ability to each according to need"... ( Economics = Socialism )
That would have required a greater involvement of the people in government.. Something Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky did not plan on happening.. ( At least Lenin and Stalin )
China, on the other hand, was strictly Marxist communism.. with Mao tse Tsung as the charismatic leader..
China still makes a great show of "the people's" representation in government, but even today chinese government tends to isolationism and government controlled indoctrination..
State policy is all.. the worker is nothing but a means to an end.. ( Communism = Political )
Others with more knowledge in this field may be able to explain it better..
"Thanks Russia, Still don't trust you though."
ditto
I think you did a fine job. A while back I began a study of the the differences. I got side tracked and never completed it. This "conversation" may renew my interest.
Lenin and Stalin "hijacked" the worker's revolution..
I think there is a lot of hijacking going on in our own country. Words, suddenly mean things they never meant before. Thank you for your enlightening (another word that has been hijacked, IMO) responses.
If holland had a tidal wave or hurricane there levies would be equally insufficiant.
Cpaceba, gospodeen Pyuten. Amerika est horoshaya.
(Thank-you Mr. Putin. America is good.)...but rusty on my grammar.
I think many nations will express their condolences but few will contribute heavy financial assistance. But I've been wrong many times before.
What are the Saudis sending (other than bills for their high-priced oil)?
Putin is an autocrat who heads an increasingly nationalistic and xenophobic administration. We should be deeply concerned at where Russia is headed and be deeply worried about the motives of its sinister leader. Putin is no friend of the United States.
Nonsense. It is merely an attempt to lessen the embarrassment from the recent mini-sub debacle.
I assume you meant SE Asia?
**crickets chirping**
Picture me shaking the envelope looking for cash.
How would offering to help us affect that?
Russia sends an airplane of the Ministry of Emergency Measuares with saviors & halicopters on board to New Orlean to rescue some tens citizens of Russia taking place in one of the hotel of the city
Putin was also the first foreign leader to call President Bush on Sept. 11th.
I have seen one comment in a German newspaper. Full of compassion....

gotta love dem Germans.
by showing that Russia has the capacity (allegedly) to help Western countries in times of crises rather than just relyingon them when something goes wrong in Russia. Putin's offer was largely made for domestic consumption -- to show its credulous people that America needs Russia and can't deal with a disaster by itself. That would then "lessen Russia's embarrassment" at having to have the Brits and the Americans pull the minisub from the ocean floor.
