The New Orleans police officer shot in the head by a looter Tuesday was expected to survive, officials said.
The officer, who has not been identified, was in surgery at West Jefferson Medical Center after being shot in the forehead, police said.

The looters are animals plain and simple. They should be delt with the same.

It seems that NOPD is one of the worst in the country. When I lived there, there was a very thin line between the cops and the criminals. In fact, it often seemed like the cops were just criminals with a badge.

Looters specifically – I don’t know. I did know an old guy that shot a kid who was on his property trespassing. Shot him something like 12 times with a .22 rifle. That was in July of 1974, IIRC.
I remember the lieutenant talking to his mom (she and her three doper sons had moved to Texas from Illinois) and telling her that if her son didn’t want to get shot he shouldn’t be poking around someone else’s property at night. Pissed her off in a big way and she couldn’t understand why the old guy was never arrested or tried – but he wasn’t.
Funny to think that only 30 years ago people took such things much more seriously (trespass/looting/whatever) and it wasn’t tolerated.

Not true. I saw at least two white men looting. The interesting thing is that they don't realize they have been captured on video for future prosecution, assuming they manage to survive the disease, lack of food and water. Let them eat their stolen TVs.

I was suprised there wasn't alot of looting in New York last year when the power grid conked out.
"The governor has to step up and put out a shoot to kill order or this will become Beruit by morning."
I believe he already has. He gave strict orders to law enforcement to come down hard on looters.
