Even a cop joins in the looting

Law enforcement efforts to contain the emergency left by Katrina slipped into chaos in parts of New Orleans Tuesday with some police officers and firefighters joining looters in picking stores clean.

At the Wal-Mart on Tchoupitoulas Street, an initial effort to hand out provisions to stranded citizens quickly disintegrated into mass looting. Authorities at the scene said bedlam erupted after the giveaway was announced over the radio.

KFI, Los Angeles had a reporter on just two minutes ago, and said a police officer had been shot in NO in a looting related incident.

"I know that wasn't your point, but you did madke the statement. I did a google search, and didn't find any other incidents of LEOs or firefighters joining in with looters.

Thanks. "

Not only was it not my point.....I didn't make the statement in that context, you did in post 41. You extrapolated from my original point, and I responded....but the point was yours.

Again, I'm not touching it with a 10-foot pole on this thread.

Not surprising at all. There have been a number of articles on FR pointing out how NO police have been looting money out of the wallets of out of state drivers for years.

Yes, well said.

This is the thing: Excuses for uncivilized conduct in times of crisis is just an excuse by people who possibly project what they would do in such a situation.

Won't argue with that. However, I have never heard of law enforcement officers or firefighters looting in a disaster.

I have. Read it here on FR too. Human nature.

I didn't make the statement in that context, you did in post 41. You extrapolated from my original point, and I responded....

But you did make a statement that you have read about firefighters and LEOs joining in with looters in other disasters. I only asked if you had a link and what city this occurred in.

No biggy.

Why am I laughing? This isn't really funny, but I guess it proves cops are just human too! :-)

What's the average IQ of a person in this situation looting things like DVD players and TV sets? I am going to guess 60?

How did the cracker get such a tan? BTW, the police are now "accusing" Sharpton and his driver of speeding. I am fed up with the white man bringing the brothers down.

Can't we all just get along?

WWL TV in NO just had the story re the police officer shot. He was shot in the head when he surprised looters in a convenience store.

Gretna and Jeff Parish police showed up almost instantly, shot the guy who shot the cop and arrested three other suspects. Unfortunately they only shot the goblin in the leg. The police officer is in serious condition.

I guess man does revert to mob mentality when they think no one can see them.

Not to excuse those taking items that are not necessary for survival – food and water, or bleach to purify water, while technically stealing is understandable – but I wonder if the mob mentality is aggravated, or provoked, by shock.

Oh well, the police probably won't have jobs either in another few weeks.

I remember a Jean Claude Van Damme movie where the bad guys set up a "most dangerous game"-type operation in New Orleans because law enforcement was barely at the level of a third world hellhole. I thought it was just a movie.

"Hard Target", and the scenario was during a police strike.

You can probably throw fear into the mix too.
