The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

My husband says we need to be checking to see if the warranty on the Louisiana Purchase has expired - if not, then the French would be responsible for repairs. After all, we bought it from them.

Yes, he has a strange sense of humor!

12 hours? It's only about 350 miles from NO to Houston.

That's 350 miles via the I-system, which they can't use (I-10 is flooded out west of New Orleans).

Eric Schweinsberg hits a golf ball he found while looking at the destroyed homes and businesses along Market Street in Pass Christian, Miss.

This reminds me of a subplot from Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five", in which Billy Pilgrim's friend finds nicknack in the rubble of Dresden.

I would think technology would allow for taking a DNA sample from the corpse, tagging it and keeping track of how the body was disposed and handle the ID matching after the fact.

True. And with military in charge, their body-handling procedures would be set up for exactly that sort of thing.

Odd, that you didn't get the same impression I did from that CNN reporter's mention of GW's 35 minutes inspection of damage. That's what makes life interesting. I'd wonder if I'm getting paranoid, but I fear not and can't bear to watch CNN long enough to change my mind.

Well, you're right about Galveston. From what I understand, they carted debris to the beach, stacked bodies on top, then burned them in huge funeral pyres.

Something like that could be a possibility again, especially if there's cholera.

I was watching CNN and Cindy Sheehan's commercial ran. She came off as completely and ridiculously self-absorbed. Then, they get back to the coverage and show the heroics of the National Guardsmen that Cindy Sheehan so obviously hates. The contrast could not be more stark.

I've been praying for God to do "something" about Cindy Sheehan...

"Clean Air act has just been suspended for gas and diesel!!!

This had to be done so that gas could move freely within the entire country.

Expect liberals to be crafting this into talking points within the hour. "Because of Bush's failed leadership, we now will be left with dirtier air..."

Never mind that they are the ones who have blocked any new refineries for decades.

I just thought she was saying what he did, which IS what he did; and then she said he was coming back to D.C. to get ready for his speech about New Orleans.

Now, that Cafferty guy continuing to say "Bush is on vacation" IS something to get torqued off about!
