The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Yeah what was I thinking? Silly me. There is enough media down there to actually be helping and they are all tucked away in their hotels now.

Shep sure let me down. I should have realized he is just a 'pretty boy' when he declared the Pope dead, when, in fact he lived another 2 days. This story did it for me tho. Fox has been a huge disappointment.

Well, most of us do rotate the older, treated fuel through car or truck engines (works fine), and replace it with new treated fuel in the generator tanks.

What was the point you wanted to make, and what did you want me to do. I am not normally this obtuse. What is the relevance of the site to the current situation, other than the elevations, for which I use a more precise terra server topo map?

Yes I wonder why no bodies have been shown.

Guess for the same reason you hardly ever see a video of the Twin Towers going down.

People need to see bodies and destruction to understand why not obeying orders is not good.

To many people think that the TV reporters can stand out in the wind with no sever consequence.

So they think they can also stay around and survive.

Shep is losing it.

We need to west or north (straight across LP).

There are going to be lots of dead or dying people before they fix the pumps and levees.

People first, property later.

I wonder if the water rushing in from Ponchatrain will effect the levees on the river side. Thankfully they are still intact in the city, or the flooding would be worse. But it seems to me that water on both sides of the levee will weaken it.

All Olbermann did tonight was say that for the next 12 minutes, MSNBC was going to show a video detailing 17 miles of devastation along the Miss. coast.

Any other time, I'd get all in his face for less...........

this isn't any other time though, is it?

I'm sure he's been working behind the scenes to make sure the federal government is doing what it should, but his voice was needed tonight. He should address the nation in the morning before he leaves Crawford for D.C.

Well alright! I know many there who have boats. Like I said, I can't believe they would do nothing.

While most of the rescues on TV have been of the choppers, I have seen some that are prolly just 'cajuns' with boats simply helping each other.

I heard that too. Marking the homes of the dead with red x's. They cannot collect the bodies until the refrigerated trucks can get thru, and Lord knows when that will be.

Just awful! The final toll will be above 1000 for the entire Gulf Coast.

Oh my! You jogged a memory for me from my childhood.

I remember riding through Rapid City, South Dakota as a child and seeing house after house marked with a red X.

A flash flood there in the 60's wiped out about 1,000 people IIRC.

Nothing near the devastation in the Gulf, but horrific nonetheless.

It certainly made an impression on me as a young child. When weather reports are "dicey" here in the midwest, I pay attention.

Why are there no pictures of the levee breaks? Seems to me that is where the news is.
