The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
You think that is bad? Governor is on WWL sounding like she's losing it!
Anecdotal Cry-for-Me stories!
Uh, just now live on WWL radio, the Gov is saying two days, max to get the Dome evacuated. How? No idea?
Come on Mr. President. Roll troops.
Thank you for the correct
But he is still a fool .. it will be more like 3 years before they get that city half way back to what it once was
"Where is the National Guard / Army troops."
Didn't you hear that most Dem gov's are upset because Bush is deploying them to Iraq?
"NO Mayor on CNN: evacuees will be in the Superdome at least another week unless they can get an evac plan in place because of the rising water.
"
Without water, most of them will die first. The guy who had to cut his arm off to escape the canyon in Utah had to drink his own urine just to survive five days.
Oops!! My bad!! I thought you were talking about my idiot question! Sorry. (Sheepish grin)
CNN reported that people were approaching him and his crew in the street, agressively asking them for money and food. He said these experiences were very uncomfortable.
In other words, it's Detroit.
She's really losing it, isn't she? You're listening to WWL?
I thought that they were going to evacuate them out of the SD????
LOL - if they called in Sherrif Lee for the looters, they better run. This is the fellow that takes his SWAT team out into the bayou at night to bullseye womprats (nutrea rats) with their night vision gear.
Prior to the storm, it has been generally accepted that evacuation of NOLA would take 60-72 hours. That is with all evacuation routes intact. Now, NOLA is 80% underwater, with only one route out. The math generally makes sense.
Isn't it though. Somehow I think that this one will be on one of those Engineering Disaster shows on History channel in the years to come.
THe daunting task now is how to clean up. The simple answer is get stuff running and pump the water out --unfortunately I do not see that as a viable option. The reason being it is not just water any more.
What is now pouring into Downtown will be a toxic soup of chemicals, rotting corpses, disease, etc. There isno way they can just pump that out into Lake Ponchartrain and the Mississippi. The ecological disaster would be unmatched in history. THen once they do figure out how to get the water out, and where the water goes, what is left behind will be contaminated for years to come.
New Orleans has now become Love Canal to the Millionth power. I want to believe the big Easy will live on, but I do not see how they can do it without tearing down or gutting every single building in the city.
It will be years before NO is habitable again.
What's an MRE?
Sick babies in the superdome and no toilets in N'Awleens.
Because every other section has huge concrete pylons anchoring it to the bedrock.
Brown on CNN Tried to get the mayor of N.O. to rip the President. He did not and praised him instead. Said he cut his vacation short to help and said he had enough troops.
I thought the mayor just said that never happened and blamed them for diverting resources away from that attempt.
My god, someone take this over before they kill everyone that's left alive.
That is really good news. Are we talking refined gasoline?
