I've seen reports about this from many places. God take care you and us all.

"You gotta have something to tow with. "
When WTC collapsed, the area was FLOODED with help and equipment of all sorts.
I think the citizens of New Orleans have to take matters into their own hands and get flotsam and jetsam towed to the area of the breech - it will snag soon after getting past the dyke where it gets real shallow real quick.
If you wait for the govt - it will take forever.

Where this film was taken is about 1 foot above sea level. I carefully checked the topo map. It is at Bourbon and Common street, one block west of Canal Street. The water seems about 3 feet deep. Thanks Torie. I don't think it went down any, that same reporter gave his report from his hotel rooftop tonight.
As a side bar, I think they pump a lot of water out of there when things are 'normal' on a daily basis. Was that sea water, or Mississippi water all that time?

Thanks for a very informative post. On the news some guy was saying he flew with some type of oil service group and many of the rigs were damaged or missing. Were other companies hit worse? or was he mistaken 9as reporters often are).
Also, they talk about the natural gas leaks and downed electrical lines in the city. Don't they have the capability to shut it all down before it gets to the city? (You know one of theose REALLY BIG switches at the power plant?!)

Tornado warnings in Central Virginia (Greene County)--spotted on Doppler. We're under a tornado watch until midnight. Katrina is awfully far-reaching (emphasis on the awful).
Prayer continuing for those suffering tonight.

I remember a few years back with the Carolina hurricanes, the water continued to rise days after the hurricane had passed.

This is a really good opportunity for Dubya to use every ounce of his executive power to order expedited construction of new refining capacity, so that it can be spread out and that this might never be a risk again....whatever the excuse, get the damn things built. There's no good reason the most powerful nation in the world should be forced to run at 95%-98%-105% of refining capacity all the time. Whatever the environmental, microeconomic, legal, antitrust roadblocks are....knock'em down. Git'er done!
