Katrina Live Thread, Part X

Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Prayers up, folks. FWIW you're the only story they're reporting on in the West. Even knocked that weirdo in Crawford off the front page.

BTW, some of those gas stations are only selling premium because that's all there is left. And any station that did get flooded will have to be checked to see if the tanks were compromised when the soil shifted. What a mess!

You can't stop the storm. But you can have a plan in place to get everyone out who wants to get out. That wasn't done. And it borders on criminal negligence.

What? The mayor and govenor and radio and tv stations all said GET OUT! What did you want? The cops to knock on everyones door and say get out? This is a city of a million people and not some small beach town. Thats not possible.

It will be some time before they can drain that water, imo.

And I don't know how martial law works. It's been reported that anyone who can leave NO should leave immediately.

The governor has instructed the highway patrol to block off all entrance into the state.

The whole state? Has this ever happened before anywhere?

Thus say the liberals. I heard one puke say this morning that it was because we have abused the environment.

Interesting how well educated, erudite and oh so superior liberals think, isn't it? In the Dark Ages people would have said, this storm is God's punishment, we have sinned. Today's liberals say, this is the Environment's punishment, we have used SUV's. Yep, you've come a long way, baby.

I am hoping that running her ad at this time will have the opposite effect that the leftist want...people WILL BE offended that ads are running during coverage of a national disaster

Exactly my thought.

She will be even more offensive to anyone on the fence. She doesn't come across as sympathetic in that ad.

The amount of damage is unfathomable. Communication is almost non-existent. 504 area code is out.

The Alabama Senator he was talking to corrected him and said "We call it the gulf coast".

That sounds like Senator Sessions. Was it him or Shelby?

I have read nothing more than donating to "agencies offering aid." Office Depot and Anheiser busch are also donating money and water.

Is the infrastructure secure for power? I heard this storm would wipe it out.

But taking ten thousand people, maybe without what few possessions they had, all of them stressed, some sick, some infirm, lots of children, and evacuating them all out by small boat...wow. The word "Dunkirk" keeps popping into my head.

I believe that the dysfunctional old pumps are still underwater and inaccessible

dysfunctional??? please explain. These are modern marvels and not many pumps will work without power and under water.
