Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Wow - that is a pretty amazing post. I gotts shout out to that Freeper
When the probability of the eye wall passing within 50 miles of your city exceeds 50%.
"That they may well catch, indeed.....of course, there's always the gators out in the waters... (I shouldn't talk like that)....darn it...it's just wrong that they're pillaging like this. They're degrading themselves...and our Country."
Ditto. My first thought was: "Human vermin. Looters should be shot, and they should start with you guys..."
Actually, that's my second thought, too.
Fox News is NOT reporting that there is 9 FEET of water in the French Quarter. There is more misinformation being tossed around NOW than there was yesterday.
Fox news IS saying that there is currently 9 INCHES of water in portions of the French Quarter.
There is a HUGE difference between 9 inches and 9 feet.
"What ever happened to 'Looters will be shot on sight?'"
Well, the person doing the sighting has to have both authority and a firearm in order to deliver on the threat. What we are seeing on TV is from people armed not with guns but with cameras.
Not only are they stealing from shops, but breaking into homes! FGS!
1. CNN coverage is better for news events because, rightly or wrongly, they don't try to operate on the cheap. CNN also hires people who can at least spell.
2. The suggestion that FOX sack Shepard Smith in exchange for John Siegenthaler is a good one.
3. National correspondents who don't have a clue and who rush around transmitting rumor as fact on the national airwaves should be shot, along with the looters.
4. Bush needs to be seen in charge of this recovery, in command of this situation -- I am expecting major military/National Guard announcements later today.
looks like people trying to walk out, using a bridge.
Let me put this to you in a very clear way. Every State has an EOC office. They know way ahead of time, long before the media idiots spout their stupidity, they notify every County in the State, the National guard, everyone that has anything to do with the safety and welfare of it's citizens in a potential disaster is notified. There are three stages, and they are almost always in the stage three which is monitoring. They had plenty of time to mobilize and save some lives, and they blew it. You cannot possibly save everyone, especially due to the ferocity of this Storm, but another 24 hours of evacuating could have saved many lives.
Your screen name says it all---I just saw the same ALERT on Fox about the 9 INCHES in the French Quarter...
I can't believe it...9 inches..what am I missing, that the information is ALERT worthy?
yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean. I would be there also... Feel very helpless and in some way via this thread can feel a bit connected.
I have no idea if this has been discussed: popping in and out: there is a Fox News Alert about NEW evacuations out of New Orleans? 9" of water in the French Quarter... ?
The water is so high in the area where the rescue footage is coming from. Like people are lucky their roofs barely poke up above the water.

I'm worried about all those folks down there, sure. But I sure hope Mother's is okay, too.
A Bloody and a po-boy sounds pretty good to me about now.
You bet I'll take DOCUMENTED FR posts. Any day.
"the Military is taking over soon...."
They need boots on the ground. Media is hyping the looters.
The president spoke this morning and has ordered military assistance.
Thanks!
