Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

FNC: Martial law declared in NO.
Repeating emergency numbers, all I've heard so far.
1-800-469-4828 Emergencies only
601-359-7017 For any information on missing relatives, LA included. They said it's a switchboard of sorts, and will give you other contact numbers according to need.
WWL-TV has now posted a connecting link to KHOU but it too is overloaded (at least I can't get it to come up).
I can't stop thinking about Shep and the other Fox news crew in NO going on and on about how people were sitting in a bar last night - what a waste of footage when people were hanging onto their houses waiting for rescue.
They Declared Marshall Law in New Orleans...the French Quarters is flooding, New Orleans is Flooding, and the waters are rising.
I am not watching fox....is Shep still reporting? If so, is he eating crow yet?
"Did anyone see the clip last night of Chris Matthews calling the gulf coast 'The Redneck Riviera?'"
That's a very common name for the area. Doesn't seem to offend anyone who lives there.
Matter of fact, most folks seem to like that name...
Can anybody find a decent roadmap of Slidell? I cannot get my uncle's address to come up on mapquest and it's been 5 years since i was there so I don't recall specific directions.
What else can is there to say?
Good luck.
Martial law is very common in devastated areas immediately following the crisis. I would only be surprised if they hadn't declared martial law there.
IIRC, last time martial law was declared in the U.S. was in Hawaii during the entirety of WWII.
Catholic Charities maybe, Jewish family and Childrens might be good. The Catholics in Louisiana have incredible charitable organizations.
I am just weeping here.
My prayrs are with you.
This is absolutely so sad, I cannot even watch the TV reports. This is a MAJOR, MAJOR DIASASTER.
Thank you
