Keep your head down. I'm on the east side. These storms seem to be tending toward the west and north.

Rolling boil for a minimum of one minute, or if unable to boil water, use household chlorine bleach. Add 1/8 teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water if the water is clear. If the water is cloudy, add 1/4 teaspoon of bleach per gallon. Mix the solution thoroughly and let it stand for at least 30 minutes before using it. NOTE: Treating water with chlorine bleach will not kill parasitic organisms. Only boiling will do this.

Sounds like a Mormon thing to do, and I would expect that they are getting stuff together to help for this storm, too.

My ex-roommate had family in Alabama who swear they would never give to the Red Cross. After going through a hurricane like this one, the Red Cross told them they were only there to help the poor neighborhoods. I'm not sure I believe it, but the story was relayed more than once.

I agree that it is not their job to pass out anything to anyone. Just do not offer donated items to our servicemen and the try to charge them.

Thank you for the tornado warnings on your #103. Holly buckets, that's a lot of warnings.

I heard her say that "armageddon" word.

Wolf Blitzer then repeated it.

In a Tri-Cities hotel lobby, Moynihan and her family were watching a network TV reporter broadcast right down the street from their Mandeville, LA, home. Hurricane Katrina had hit Louisiana.

"There is severe and widespread flooding, according to authorities," the reporter said as the family waited with cell phones in hand.

"They can't get the rescue people out there," Bill Moynihan, Bonnie’s husband, said with a concerned look on his face.

Bill and Bonnie, along with their son Kyle, watched as live pictures of the store they shopped at back home showed how Hurricane Katrina was ripping through the area.

"I want to throw up,” Bonnie said with a disgusted look on her face. “It's just like someone punching you in the gut."

My parents have a horror story regarding the Red Cross from WW II..the details of which I don't quite remember, but both of them have repeatedly expressed utter contempt for the organization.

I haven't read past your post about the Alabama being submerged yet...I don't think it is actually floating. I think they have it in place some how so maybe it is submerged as in flooded. Does that make since?

My dad was a WWII vet and he had nothing good to say about the Red Cross and nothing but praise for the Salvation Army. I don't know how that relates to today's situation but I've always remembered that. I give blood regularly to the Red Cross because it seems to be the only avenue but cash donations I give to the Salvation Army
