My dad was a WWII vet and he had nothing good to say about the Red Cross and nothing but praise for the Salvation Army. I don't know how that relates to today's situation but I've always remembered that. I give blood regularly to the Red Cross because it seems to be the only avenue but cash donations I give to the Salvation Army

I would bet the farm that the Salvation Army does not pay their head people six figure salaries, and that the money for the most part goes straight to the needy.

If I were a volunteer risking my life in the floodwaters to try and and help these victims of this awful disaster (not 60 years ago, today), I think I'd feel sick to my stomach reading some of the cheap, sneering remarks here.

Actually, you can give blood at your local hospital. Some even deduct a few dollars from your or someone else's hospital bill for donations.

In many areas, there is another organization besides the Red Cross that handles blood donations. Check and see if there is one in your area.
