That picture is out of Carrollton, GA, about 40 miles west of me. There are multiple tornado warnings popping off every twenty minutes or so 'round here.

Never occurred to me to question the official death count re Andrew. But I did drive from Boca to Key Largo two weeks after the 'cane and marveled at how resilient the human body is, as clearly a lot of people had to have been thrown around. My friend, a Miami physician, had her roof blown off but headed straight for the hospital anyway to get to work on the injured. She never said a word about uncounted bodies....Will we ever know for sure?

Sorry you lost your home to Andrew and that you had to leave SoFL. Sorry I left too...thinking of moving back to Naples perhaps. NOLA is appealing to a certain extent, but the crime is discouraging. And now this. I woke up Sunday literally shaking about Katrina and I've hardly slept since.....maybe a little Andrew distress hangover.??? God help everyone on the Gulf Coast.

Andrew did a lot of damage, but there was no massive loss of life cover-up. I was there.

I salvaged in the stench and rubble for 4+ months .. my place and a couple of friends. I had no electricity until I rented a room in a dry house 4 weeks after Andrew. Those in the deep South Dade country out west in the Redlands didn't have electricity for about 3 months. I was in mail lines, food lines, and phones lines for a couple of months, and came in contact with dozens of people from different neighborhoods .. on the ground.

Being in the military would automatically allow you to be out after the curfew .. for you were called in to help and restore order, for which we will be eternally grateful. But how would that standing mean that you were of a rank who would be entitled to know everything?

Two weeks' involvement does not and COULD NOT compute to your knownig the whole Andrew story.

shhhh no one wants to hear that here. They already know everything.

What facts did STARWISE add to the discussion except to write: "I certainly heard the rumors..."

Nothing wrong with discussing "rumors" just as long as they're recognized for what they are...

Yeah that was no andrew, more tree damage than anything else. Knock enough trees down and you will take some power lines with you, that's probably what happened.South Fla. definitely dodged a bullet. We lost power for only one day in the keys. We still have many weeks to go in this season.

Now there's a twist- roof is not blown away- but nothing remains inside.

Another driver of the Andrew conspiracy theory is people simply not believing the amazing ability of people to survive wind damage alive.

Even in a house that has lost its roof AND its walls, most people are going to live. People are really, really hard to kill with pure wind damage..a lot will be severely injured by debris, but you still have a chance.

It's water that is the efficient killer; but people just couldn't believe so many people lived in places like Cutler Ridge, because of the spectacular visual nature of the damage.

Added to my weather bookmarks. Thanks Rob.

Just mind boggling that the power of the storm can reach the distance it has.

"Armageddon"?

I really do think words like this should be used sparingly by reporters. I mean, something like that doesn't leave much higher up on the descriptive scale of things does it? But I guess if it warrants it....

So has she moved out of the downtown area then? Getting hard to track this.
