Nashville is getting rain bands on and off. The drive home was messy and slow. Wind is up slightly. Can't believe they closed school. My brother lives in Murfreesboro. If anything is gonna flood around here, it will be the 'boro. I sometimes think it must be below sea level!

Hopkinsville, KY, about 70 miles northwest of Nashville, flooded Sunday night from some storms to the north that got sucked into Katrina's saturated atmosphere and dumped 8 inches in a short period of time. A wall collapsed at Christian County High School and there was some major flooding on U.S 68 east of town near the Little River. They've got another round of heavy rain coming before they can start cleanup.

This is my public service post, to hopefully avoid cleanup tragedies. After a hurricane, you get all types of people who have never trimmed a tree limb arm themselves with chainsaws for the first time. I know this is obvious to most, but for others, a downed tree has a heavy root ball counterbalanced by the limbs of the tree. If you saw the tree through the trunk, it will VIOLENTLY right itself.

In the aftermath of hurricane Fran, one man lost his two children who were playing in the hole left by the root ball while dad sawed through the trunk. Another man was thrown through the wall of his house and killed because he straddled the trunk while sawing through it.

I know this is common sense, but it is easy to be overwhelmed by the devastation and not think clearly. Lets be careful with the power tools!

I've heard in several places that a significant portion of the shoreline in Biloxi is just gone with all buildings and casino boats destroyed.

You would have to watch the MSM for a year to see as much as you will in 5 minutes on the wdsu link. Local coverage is uncensored and without all the acting. Anyone who can get the stream should not miss out on it.

Had a feed most of the day, but apparently is now off as all I get are the color bars and tone.

Exact same story I got from my father, he still did not appreciate paying for the coffee and donuts.

Heck, I wouldn't either. Good posts, BTW, as always.

I am deeply concerned now about Mississippi after hearing Barbour.

We've heard a couple of news reports but nothing at all from people in the area.

The stream was fantastic earlier today about showing the looters. I haven't really had a chance to see that on cable news or anywhere else, if it has really even been covered.

We call them Paul Bunyan injuries.

Many folks had hurricane fatigue and thought they were crying wolf and stuck it out. Also Harrigan's report of the coastal hotels/casinos being "gone". Barbour also commented about six feet of water in a place that got none from Camille. He knows more than he is telling I think but has to be above it all out of concern for families and such.

I dunno... according to most on this thread we better start praying for the Red Cross to pack up and leave before they do any more damage.

Disgusting. Of *all* that bad stuff happening out there... some people gotta pick on the Red Cross of all things. I guess I'm grateful that the Boy Scouts didn't show up.

Whoever was asking about the Slidell area, on the news the reporter just said the video/reports he saw suggested wind damage(perhaps heavy) but not standing water problem (not major water anyway) in that area.
