"Delay showed some support for it"
Yes, he said that he supported law enforcement, but what else did he say?
He said that the Bush plan was being mis-represented. No doubt he was referring to Tancredo. He also said that turning the screws on employers had been tried and didn't work.

Meaningful reform to you Dane is selling out the country like the good democrat you are. Better hurry, you don't want to miss any of those Ted Kennedy and Howard Dean speeches BS and you know it. Kyl/Cornyn is a good bill, but IMO you and tancredo would like to see nothing accomplished, just to keep the issue(and PAC money) alive.

Delay gave support to the provision that ended anchor babies as well as an end to sanctuary policies Tancredo's been pushing. He also agreed with Tancredo that illegals in the country have to go home first to apply and they couldn't bring their entire families with them.
To: Dane
The Kyl/Cornyn bill is another attempt at bait and switch that thankfully has little chance of passing. We need true reform, not legislation that promises enforcement that we all know we'll never see.
To: Reaganwuzthebest
Don't you think it strange that Delay arrived so lately on this issue?
There are many who will tell you that he is only posturing because of his travel difficulties.
There are also those who say that he is working on behalf of Bush to take the issues away from Tancredo.

The Kyl/Cornyn bill is another attempt at bait and switch that thankfully has little chance of passing. More BS, but what the hey, tancrdoites think of nothing of smearing good conservatives anyway they can.
Another example is tancredo doing a RINO chris shays and backstabbing Tom Delay, earlier this year.

Actually, I support Bush-Kyl-Cornyn. But I'm realistic enough to know that it will never have enough votes. The dems won't vote for it. Bush could kiss Tancredo's butt on the Lou Dobbs show and the Immigration Caucus would still not vote for it.Actually, if the President were to make a strong push for Tancredo's bill publicly, it would pass, because the public response to it would be positive. What's in there that the public would be opposed to? It's only the politicians that don't like it. Why you and a few others continue to cover for them is beyond me.

Whatever his motivations he's saying the right things. They will need the votes of the Immigration Caucus to get meaningful reform through so maybe that's what it's about.
Something has to be done sooner or later, they can't ignore the problem forever. Hopefully they'll start with enforcement legislation first as Delay promised.

By the way, it's not smearing when it's the truth.

First off, the prez is not going to support Tancredo's position because that is economic suicide for the country and political suicide for the Republican Party.
Even if he did, that would not translate into Congrssional support for Tancredo.

Building a fence would require 3 tiers of fencing in urban areas and no fence in the desert. Crap. Build the fence, concrete not chain-link, under a works program like the TVA.I would suggest that deer stands be erected at every mile marker along the border and that volunteers man those deer stands to shoot anything that walks. Coyotes will take care of the carcasses!
Need a volunteer??????
End of subject, end of discussion........

Capture the Illegals, and put them to work. Give them a living wage. Meaning if they don't work, they don't eat, they don't live. Have the Illegals build our border fence.
If Vincente Fox doesn't like it, we can tell him:
"Its work even Americanos that are negro won't do.

"Something has to be done sooner or later."
You don't have enough votes to pass anything on a straight vote and you never will.
Try it on an amendment and the Senate will ram it back down your throat. They gave Sensenbrenner and the House a walk on Real ID and they won't be so polite next time.
To: One Proud Dad
Build the fence, concrete not chain-link, under a works program like the TVA. Put detained illegals on a chain-gang like we used to have and have them build the damn thing. As is, illegals that have been detained are simply taken to court and given a date when they have to show up for their hearing. Most don't subsequently show up of course. Instead of just letting them go, we can make them work on building the wall in the meantime.

If the Senate refuses to look at anything that clamps down on illegal immigration then we'll never see anything passed. The status quo is unacceptible and it jeopardizes the GOP majority so not considering congressional amendments may be a risky gamble on their part.

"Even as a guest worker program it is seriously lacking."
What specifically?
" It is widely accepted that the tech worker and nurses guest worker programs work very well, but Tanc wants to change them. Dumb. "
Widely accepted amongst who? Tancredo's program streamlines the current mess. "Eliminates current H-1B (high-tech), H-1B1 (Chile/Singapore high-tech), H-1C (nurses), H-2A (agricultural), and H-2B (seasonal or temporary) nonimmigrant visas and replaces them with a single H nonimmigrant visa for all needed workers, skilled and unskilled.
And the best part. "...allows H nonimmigrant visas to be issued only when No qualified and lawfully present workers are available to perform the work, and no such workers could be trained in under a year to perform the work."
Tancredo needs to step up to the plate and say what he intends to do about 20 million illegals.
Why do you continue to say this? He has been very vocal about what he intends to do;
Tom Tancredo:" If we in fact were to begin enforcing the law against people who are hiring people who are here illegally, we would go a long way towards eliminating the problem. Because if you dry up demand, you naturally dry up supply. If we had true enforcement of our laws from an employers stand point, then you would find that many of the millions of people who are here would go back home. Then the ones who remain, we could begin deporting -- and yes I mean deporting. The word nobody wants to use, but you see if you are here illegally, that's the punishment, deportation.
But you can only do all of this if you secure your own borders. Because what's the use of rounding up and deporting millions of people if you in the meantime leave your borders wide open so they simply turn around and walk back in? You must do two things simultaneously. You must secure your borders and begin enforcement of immigration law -- or the third option is to repeal the laws. Don't be so hypocritical as to pretend that we have immigration policy. Don't be so cynical, so despicable, that we send people to the border and tell them that their job is stop people from coming in here illegally and then simply ignore the fact that they're being swamped. What you've done is told people to go to the border, given them a sieve, and told them to stop the flood. Those are our only options, we have no other decisions to make. I want the President of the United States of America to tell the people what he wants to do. Does he want to enforce the law and protect or borders or not?"
