we just had a mini tsunami...
New Olreans is flooding as I type this as winds turn north off the lake..
downtown mobile under water..record surge into Mobile Bay
J.C. from the weather channel...surge is 6 feet high in the 1st floor of his hotel which sits 27 feet above sea level..said it came up all at once..
Downtown Mobile Alabama now underwater.
Schools ect heavy damage.
Biloxi:
The hotel weatherman Rob Marciano is in has lost part of its roof.
Western Eyewall now hitting Biloxi.
Missippi and Alabama going to get hit just as hard as Katrina is not lightening up as it moves futher on land.
Part of the super Dome roof has flew off.
Flooding up to 10ft-12ft. in areas of Gulfport, Miss
Holy Crap!
Cantore saying that based on talking to Dr. Lyons who looked at elevation maps there, and on what Cantore is saying...possibly a 37 foot surge! Just INCREDIBLE.
Is this a new section of the Dome that has ripped off? Earlier they reported that a 15x5 section had blown off.
Just listening to the live press conference. Haley Barbour just said that looters will be handled RUTHLESSLY! He said they will be handled as strongly as the law allows.
I have family members who left NO going up to Hattiesburg MS to get away from the storm! They are going to have winds in H'burg just as bad as they would have had in NO, but they're not likely to get the flooding they would have had in the city.
The weathermen out in this CAT 5 are unbelievable.
We have seen quite a few now blow right off the screen.
My son is in stiches laughing at them.
Then they tell the public not to go out Don't take chances! I think it is a miracle that we don't lose one of the weathermen.

I might be wrong, but I think the pictures are showing that the outer skin of the roof (some type of fabric) has blown off, not the roof itself. While there are some holes through which rain is coming in, I think the pictures look worse than it really is at this point. Hopefully, it will not get any worse.
I'm not so sure I would call it courage.
Tsunami's are generated by earthquakes, which are rated though. I think it was a 7.3 that cause the recent ones in Indonesia and Thailand. Of course there are so many variables in a tsunami .. where is the eathquake, how deep is it, tides, etc. that the correlation is not 1 to 1. But it's probably fair to say that small earthquakes pose almost no hazard (4 or maybe even 5s but that bigger ones MAY)
LOL, there are no big cities near Scooba, MS. (Meridian, most likely.)
See post #78.
That pic is what I saw on the news as it was reported.
Really, then why do we owe TRILLIONS?
Last thing we need is to let more foreigners into the country.
Actually the idiot weathermen is a symbol of what is wrong with TV news. I am personally hoping for one to have his skull pierced by a steel street sign post while doing the live "in the wind" schtick. Then we could have a state funeral to rival Reagan's to memorialize this "hero of reporting". LOL !!
Because we're a good credit risk? :~D
My bad - forgot about old Hurricane Dan
