We're Americans and can take care of ourselves.

***

Actually, we have some who are still devastated from last year's crop of hurricanes.

Don't see how Cat 5 can be applied to a surge.

They have benchmarks for storm surges. For a Cat 1 storm, you probably expect so many of feet of surge; for a Cat 5, it's obviously much higher.

Quilla, is it really bad there now? My daughter and family live there, I talked to her this morning and she just laughed and said its a reallly lite drizzle. I'm afraid they don't take storms seriously.

Don't see how Cat 5 can be applied to a surge. The surge may come from levee's breaking or the heavy rains.

The surge comes from gulf waters literally being pushed ashore by the WIND --- CAT5 -- heavy rains and broken levees nmay contribute to flooding, but have absolutely nothing to do with causing storm surges.!

Even the tsunami didn't have a Category designation.

Hurricanes are rated by category ... not tsunamis! (DUH?)

They have such beautiful sand.

If you're talking about the Mississippi Gulf Coast, all that sand was trucked in.

That beach is naturally muddy.

It was for a little while - it seems to have slacked off considerably. I'm in a metal building which seems to accentuate the sound. I'll let you know if anything changes.

Surely those Islam dominated countries we helped ith their tsunami will be sending relief workers any minute

Please. We are at 250% capacity of Islamics. Much more destructive than any hurricane.

I visited my sister near Destin, Fl...just up the coast, and all they did was brag about their native white sand.

Those were huge beaches around Biloxi, Gulfport, etc. It's hard to believe they're phony....but...live and learn.

It's all dang scary. Where I live, we get the remnants (massive amounts of rain) which is bad enough. This right now is just too much.
