we just had a mini tsunami...
New Olreans is flooding as I type this as winds turn north off the lake..
downtown mobile under water..record surge into Mobile Bay
J.C. from the weather channel...surge is 6 feet high in the 1st floor of his hotel which sits 27 feet above sea level..said it came up all at once..
It's quite the carnival of sights, isn't it. I actually appreciate them for it, it helps me to see what it's really like... If I were there I'd go stand in it. They're doing it for me, and I stay safe and dry.

Why would we ~need~ help from other countries? We are the wealthiest nation in the world.

It's the thought that counts.
So if you want to continue calling the surge Cat 5.....be my guest.
>>can they soak up water well? how about toilet paper?
Think we can get some Islamic charities to donate copies of the Koran?
Thought does count. What does the sarcastic spoiled attitude of "I wonder how much they're going to give us?" count for?
After seeing the destruction of Andrew, I would have to say that television doesn't capture 2% OF WHAT HAPPENED.
Biloxi MS surge went over 2 miles inland
Where is the UN?
Try more like 9.3.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I'm glad you're all alright, but I'm worried about those down there right now, as you are too.
Wow--so far 7,899 people have viewed this thread.....
good one
Yeah, and no telling who would come over to "help".
I don't know anything specifically about Kemper County, but they are saying Meridian (in neighboring Lauderdale County) can expect 100 mph winds later today. We're supposed to get 60-80 mph here at my house late this afternoon.
My office in downtown Jackson closed at 11:30 and I was so glad. Driving home was very dangerous because of the wind and downed trees.
Don't believe anything your hear from the TV folks. Only after the storm clears and choppers are in the air will we know the full extent of what has happened.
Any news on the truth to this? Trying to tell my son where all this is happening. We toured this a couple of years ago so I know he will remember it. Obviously the motels next door have to be under or gone. Wonder if the "Cock of Walk" is tall enough up this time around.
Sorry. Maybe a station in Jackson or one of the other big cities has a live feed.

It's a station in Jackson -- has a video too.
