"You don't think they rationalize to justify they are stealing? Interesting. I never thought of a looter have a conscience."
The don't have a conscience. Thats why they don't have to rationalize. Thieves are amoral.
"I love that Mississippi accent too! It reminds me of the writer Shelby Foote."
Yes, we were sorry to lose Shelby Foote this year. His straight-forward comments will be missed in this PC-crazy world.
Another "we" here.
I told her to get off the cell phone and conserve the battery in case she really needs it later. She said she kept hearing these noises and she couldn't figure out what it was...and then realized that it was branches snapping off the trees and flying around. OY VAY!
They may have a BBQ, but do they have fuel for a month?
I realize that many are poor and can't afford some of the stuff we have been talking about but I've always been amazed about how Americans pull together in emergencies. Whether neighbors, charities or other cities and states, they will get fresh water. We tend to take care of our own. Finding the one's that need help the priority now.
Is everyone tired of hearing about the stupid dome in New Orleans?
Would be nice if the media would get off their fixation with New Orleans. Hundreds of other communities have been hit as well.
Indeed, as long as the rich people from out of town see that their playgrounds haven't been ruined, i.e. French Quarter and Biloxi casinos, that's all they care about.
If it were possible I'd reach into my tv screen and throttle the next reporter that says something along the lines of "looks like things didn't turn out so bad after all."
Here is the link to Spiff's latest graphic with the locations of all the Freepers and/or their families that we know about!

She said she'd take an earthquake ANYTIME!
I only meant to comment on the fact that N'Awlins was spared the worst case scenario of Lake P levees being breached and a filling up of the entire bowl.
I did not mean to belittle the massive damage that was done, nor to say that a complete and total evacuation was warranted-- it was, and if there is ever a similar situation they should act sooner than they did.
NOLA is uniquely vulnerable to a wind, water and flooding event due to its topography, coupled with its difficulty in evacuation, as everyone is aware. For that reason they should be more careful than other locales.
Sorry if my post was too short to convey my entire thought.
I agree with you, all these models we saw about how NO can be flooded (the Atlantis type flooding we were hearing about in the runup to this) - they need reworking, because I think they make some assumptions which are very unlikely. it seems like to take out NO, the hurricane would have to be moving northwest, riding right up the mouth of the river into Ponchitrain.
This is true.
I tried to prepare her for it, but, of course, you just cannot tell somebody what it's like.
She was SUPPOSE to go out and buy a car charger this morning (which I TOLD her to do yesterday) but I guess she didn't.
Has she lost power?
I am begining to think that too.
But those outer pennisulas are gettting more eroded with each storm as the river rises. So they may not always be this lucky. But there many people who stayed with their businesses in the FR . Cant fault them, since the city has different sections and elevations. I thought kenner and meterie would be toast. Looks like kenner did get some flooding from the canals.
The levees should be improved to not shut off when the power goes out.
One final point. Fox had a slow old man who was explaining the sections and canals of the city, but noOOOOOOO!,
schung! they had to cut away for one of their stupid fox alerts, rather than letting us in on how the levee system REALLY works. ;(
Thank you.
