But for everyone else still in need, "Notre Dame de Prompt Secour! Haitez-vous de nous securir!"
Worse? A strong cat 4, directly hitting New Orleans from the worst possible direction? What could be worse? This was "the Big One" for New Orleans.
This is not a problem ... shoot for the center of mass. Even if you don't achieve satisfactory results, it will slow the individual down so you can make the next shot perfect.
The hardest hit were women, children, the poor, and gays. Why do you hate this people?
They didn't pray as much as the people in NO did.
I saw some reporter last night who was happy to be at the Entergy EOC because she knew they wouldnt lose power!
At least 20 building collapses reported thus far. -La Governor.
Not this discussion again!!!
Hang in there. Many other FReepers do know exactly what you're going through, and are there themselves. I am not one of them as I am over in Cal., but we are all here for you even if we can only offer moral support.
Worse: A Hurricane Gilbert hitting due west of New Orleans.
Thank you for the info. I (in UT) was just disappointed last night (not surprised) that my dad (in CA) didn't realize how bad this was (he doesn't pay much attention to the news).
I know he'll be wanting to check on them tonight after my report.
Where is the Industrial Canal in NO? They're saying that the levee was breached in that area.
Thanks for explaining that. It's something us inlanders don't know much about.
A direct hit 50 miles west at Houma would have been worse. It would have destroyed Houma and put all the worst of the storm over New Orleans. That would have been "The Big One." Looks like the border and MS coast suffered the worst of this one.
LA Gov:
NWS says tropical force winds may not subside until 7pm, so rescue efforts may be delayed.
The good thing is that the authorities learned after Andrew that they need to get aircraft up as soon as possible to asses the situation. Which in turn gets assistance to the most critical places quickly.
I can see how the poor would be hard hit, but I don't follow you on the other three groups. Gays?
God forbid his prediction is right....my wife is in that area.
People have also been citing the weakening of the storm prior to landfall.
Praying for your son..mine is a freshman at Belhaven College
in jackson..they still have power..wind gusts ap to 45...
My daughter who also lives in Jackson was at the store this a.m. and said several of the stores were boarding windows!!
in Jackson!
