Reports of massive flooding in Mississippi and Alabama.
Not many freeper reports coming in from those areas? Seems like everyone is talking about New Orleans. These other areas are getting hit very hard.

Hopefully, the residents of the Retirement Home were evacuated to a safe location prior to the storm. No, they weren't. See my post 2,378. The home's mgr. was bragging about the ability of this home to withstand such weather. They were even saying that meals would be served on schedule (business-as-usual).

He said he is going to do specials for FOX and would not be anchoring everydayI hope it is because that is what he wants to be doing. I think he is very good and will miss him.

ABC affiliate is saying no emergency services at this time as the storm is still raging. God help those people on their roofs or in their attics!

I swear I'm sticking to my guns on my Cantore Theory of Catastrophic Weather:
"If Jim Cantore does a weather report from anywhere in your vicinity, get out your Rosary, because you're screwed."
I'll be keeping an eye out for him in my area this winter, that's for sure.
You should get some rest -- you've done an ass-kicking job, but you must be all done in!

Special thanks are extended to the United States Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter crews stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi...who have been flying continuous missions through Katrina even as their families and homes are being seriously impacted by this hurricane. Bless each and everyone, and their families, too!

You are the one who is overhyping and exaggerating, in this case as to how it was reported. Did you watch the news yesterday?

Great New Orleans sense of humor there.

You are free to leave here anytime you want.
To: bwteim
They didn't evacuate or bring a pick axe. Very sad.

But if we lose refining capacity, what would be the point? It's still crude oil. Oh, but it's symbolic, and that's what counts! </sarc>

Can y'all PLEASE take it to another thread - start a joke/chat thread if you want? There's gonna be a flood of news coming out over the next few hours and we need to keep the signal-to-noise ratio up on this thread.

IF New Orleans were sinking due to building weight, ONLY the heaviest buildings would be going down: The WHOLE AREA is lowering (a very little bit due to ground water pumping - that's what began submerging parts of Baytown TX back in the early 70's) but NOT ENOUGH water is pumped out to cause the whole rea to keep going down.
Bldg foundations ONLY spread the load out in the immediate area of the building (most of which is spreadout BETWEEN the pilings, NOT even into adjacent bldg's, (much less into adjacent city blocks!).
More important, downtown NO is a very, very small area: less than 4 square miles. Most of which is 2-4 story buildings! (Very light weight, geologically speaking. There are only a few high-rises, and something like the Long Bridge weighs more than the buildings.)

How about another push for ANWR? My understanding is that ANWR drilling is coming in the Budget bill, and it cannot be filibustered there.
