Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

My apologies to the great freeper cooks out there but a side thread for recipes would be great. We can all read it later for the good recipes. This thread is moving so fast it's hard enough to keep up with the news at hand.

You have no idea who I am.
I'm the only one who responded to your 'is this chicken-little or what' post and because I think this is serious I'm a bitter person?

I remember the weather in southern DE getting pretty hellish in the summer, even at 2am when we used to come back from racing. South of the C&D the land is just dead flat.

As for winter storms, this year we're buying a snowblower. I've had it with these Nor'easters.

Food is an integral part of the coping process and should not be ignored.

I can assure you that in my current hormonal state, food is NEVER ignored. Sometimes it makes me sick, but it's never unimportant! ; )

Evacuating the upper floors of hotels according to ABC News Channel. One is right next to the Superdome -- moving people to the ballroom.

Now that you mention it I was at my Art Dealers and noticed the filters he had from the Aquarium where he works are just like the filters in my pool.

Hmm interesting.

Got my brain thinking about this now.

I had that live webcam up all day, and my computer locked up so I lost all my cams.
I was going to link the url to the W hotel, but I don't know where it originated from.
Same with my causeway cam.

We're all set and the doggies are all tucked in.

Chances are that those dogs will do as good a job of protecting you as you do protecting them.

I just lost WWL about 5 mins. ago. Is there a better link, or is it out? When I try WDSU...all I get it static.

Sorry this isn't a recipe.

I certainly do have a safe room. Unfortunately, it's in a motel in El Paso. :)

Can you see Rosa's Cantina below? :)

I think the Marriot is connected to the Superdome by a large catwalk or bridge type structure. It's been so long since I've stayed there that my memory is a bit foggy.

You don't want to do what John Kerry says because all three dogs and both cats will somehow end up wounded and get little Purple Hearts.

We hung a sign over the boathouse - "Bring it on, B$TCH"

If that doesn't encapsulate the American spirit, I don't know what does.
