Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

What you do not understand is that a lot of the receipe posters have loved one in the path of this hurricane. It is not clutter to them to sprinkle a little light stuff with the facts. Get a grip

They've supported a WFL franchise in the past. One of the reasons that the Saints logo (on the jersey, not the helmet) features an outline of the state. It was supposed to draw additional support statewide, rather than focusing on the Saints as a strictly New Orleans team.

Short of this, you've got Birmingham, Memphis, and Orlando, although Memphis and Orlando already have NBA franchises.

Oh, I see now.

You're right, probably going to risk their lives for material items. You would think they would have insurance on that stuff.

WDSU is doing the same kind of thing; their sister station in Orlando is broadcasting on their signal until they can get set up in Jackson, MS.

IF LIFE THREATENING STORM SURGE FLOODING DEVELOPS...MOVE TO HIGHER FLOORS OR HOUSE ATTICS. BRING TOOLS TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY EXIT SHOULD THESE HIGHER FLOORS OR ATTICS BECOME INUNDATED.

How frightening.

Good grief, it's a small world. We thought living on a ranch in the middle of nowhere might make us safe, but the world is rather small, now. My daughter who is married to the merchant mariner who is now in the middle of a huricane, worked for an international company and had an appointment on the fourth floor of the WTC on 9-11. Her AA flight from Dallas was cancelled at the last moment that day. She could hardly work after that and cried for two weeks at having been somehow spared.

I am the dullest knife in the drawer tonight myself. Past both our bedtimes, eh? :o)

And I am off to my own bed with prayers for my family members and all the other families in the vicinity of Katrina.

Yes I know.

Some of the best food in the world is found in Louisiana.

One of my best friends has an office close to the causeway.

I am quite worried about him.

Last I heard from him yesterday was nothing but worry about that dang building.

I hope he got out today instead of trying to ride out the storm.

Forget the Weather Channel. Steve Lyons is desperately trying to convince himself that this thing is taking a northward tract when clearly it is still going NNW if not NW.

Read post #362.

Scroll passed the stuff you aren't interested in. Red beans and rice recipes are pressure valves.

That's what I am buying -- the largest ones I can find and several of them. I cannot make hot wings without hot sauce and no other hot sauce works as well.

I'm worried about them too. About an hour ago they were live at the Dome and everyone was calm, cool and collected.
