Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

I'm all for keeping this a hurricane thread...but, like a poster mentioned, LIVE threads that are dealing with high stress levels tend to end up with recipe talk...
Therefore, to me, it is comforting to see the recipe talk...it would make me MORE nervous if it weren't here..
JMHO, of course.
No problem. :)
It's not canned, but it freezes well!
It's absolutely de-lish!
LOL! You should've included a recipe! That's where you went wrong!
I might just do that.
If I had to make a choice between a good (cooked) fudge and scotch I suspect my brain would lock up for all time. :o)
no problem :)
Now with that, I am going to hit the sack.
Prayer for all those in the path and those who will be affected. God Grant them strength.
Out.
I don't think he was sent there to report. I got the impression this afternoon, that he may have been there on a weekend vacation. I came in late on his first report earlier in the day, but saw most of it. Yes, he looked concerned.
Thanks for that.
"what happened to the easternuswx forum?"
They have locked it down for non members. Here is the message there:
"I had to take some drastic measures this evening. Guests viewing is temporarly disabled and we are approving new accounts as quickly as we can.
The issue with the server is very odd and I suspect this might once again be from the "outside". There is no reason for our CPU load to be spiking like it is from time to time with the amount of users we have online (often times it was working fine with the same number of users) I have also disabled a number of board features so if you see something "missing" or not updating don't fear, it will return when things calm down. I will keep everyone posted."
Those of us who have been doing these storm threads for a number of years have gotten into habits - and we all know old habits die hard.
I don't have a TV in my bedroom or else I wouldn't go to bed..I would be watching Fox coverage
Last night when we were watching this, it picked up strength during the eye reformation and then formed a perfect eye. That was around 11 maybe? It went to category 4 by 2 a.m. and was a 5 by 7:00 a.m.
There was hope another eye reformation would occur in the next 18 hours (when everyone thought this would hit on Monday at 10:00).
It did everything out of the ordinary.
The cinnamon toast is better if the sugar/cinnamon mixture is put on buttered bread, then the bread with the butter/sugar/cinnamon is broiled just under the broiler in the oven.
Accuweather just said 6am.
Bastardi said 9 am to 3 pm Monday is critical time.
Thanks for the info. Did Shep go to the Superdome? Thought he was staying in the French Quarter?
LOL!
I would, but I work second shift. Instead, I'll be donating $$$ and linens/towels to the Salvation Army.
Jefferson Parish EOC presser -- announcing that tropical storm force winds are being felt in Jefferson Parish. They are locking everything down and stopping police/fire/911 services until after the storm passes.
But that would be fattening!
;-)
