Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

Those people at DU shouldn't be let loose on the streets. I don't even lurk there anymore, too infuriating!
I've talked to him several times in person when he worked atop Jackie Gaughn's Union Plaza (AM-720). Art's show was political back then.
I had forgotten that. OMG, this guy is a laugh a storm, isn't he?
Bookmark. Dog got me up, not that I could sleep that well anyway.
Prayers for our fellow Americans.
They are talking about the toxic soup on C2C.
Whatever. I should have learned from the Holloway threads that these live threads are just populated with the reactionary members of FR.
Thank God that there are actually threads that attract non-alarmist posters that don't have a unbearable need to blame someone.
Geesh, a category 4 storm is about to hit New Orleans and most of you can't get past the fact that the mayor wasn't a master orator.
Hell, many of the evacuation plans you people have suggested would just as likely moved the refugees into the path of the storm and actually more vulnerable than if they had stayed put. In this case New Orleans my be a death trap, but the storm could just as likely taken a different track if evacuation had been ordered 48 hours ago.
I'm out...
Yeah but the coffee machine is controlled by the 'puter and has a low-level pot sensor with auto fill and brew.
Right?
Yeah, that's a buzz good for a week!
Yeah, was watching that. Orlando Salinas is the honorary Geraldo, evidently.
Yes this is going to be a tough show to win.
Here's a webcam near the corner of St. Charles and Napoleon.

p.s. Clicking it didn't work for me, i had to paste it into realplayer.
And whatever water it's pushing is already in front of it, right?
Hmm.. Well, I don't know what the temperature differences are, but if the water ahead is about 3-5 degrees warmer than the water behind then Katrina may very well strengthen despite the shallow depths. Basically, as I understand it, the water has to be warmer enough to make up for the decreased depth. It's the total heat that matters. Vertical shear matters too, but from what I've heard there isn't any to speak of anyhow.
pretty nasty! This should give us a look see when it gets light.

I wish I could have been there but I had to work;(
Been raining particularly hard in NO...don't know what the totals are yet.
Transferring energy to land now.
They are just for show
This is what we normally use
Yes, yes that's what I hear . . . wink, wink . . . How did I do Sidebar? Keeping secrets like this from an Admin Moderator isn't going to get me Zotted is it?
