Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

They told them to bring food for 3 days.
Yup, but don't let your guard down. It's 1 MPH away from a 5.
Jeff, your credibility is zero, little one--be gone--poof!
Santa is going to put coal and onions in your Christmas stocking for telling fibs.
I'd love some coffee, but I can't tear myself away long enough to make it!
How'd you become so incredibly self-disciplined?
Well, she probably took you to see Old Yeller or Bambi, so I'd say you're even.
Apparently using the Dome has been part of their plan since 1998 (when it was last used, by only 14K & also LOOTED) I'm also hearing there are 10 other shelters in the city. Perhaps many that stayed thought NO would be spared, again.
A Cat 4 is still going to be plenty ugly.
Try not to order people who have been here years longer than you have around.
This is the way WE do it.
Not according to our local MS channels.
its kickin ass!!!

If the winds hadn't been so high, we'd be freaking out about a CAT 4.
And it's a BIG BAD CAT 4.
Yeah because hurricanes never cause rain for days. Maybe you should tell some many Atlanta residents that were flooded out of their homes by Dennis because it rained for days.
it is on the lastest statement...155mph...or 1mph below cat 5
It's not self-disiplne. One just has to be willing to skip several hundred posts.
Or take a speed reading course.
"Low" CAT 5........LOL.
Someone posted an image, or a link back a bit. The satellite image showed it was quite asymetric already. I think it's being broken up now and will simply slow down from now on. It needs that symetry to power up, or warmer water, but...
Go to bed, you either are completely forgeting what you were just told, or are simply arguing like a Democrat(completely ignoring the facts and logic just stated by asking the same circular line of questions as if never addressed.) As mentioned (twice) before, this is the only location where the city is in a bowl below sea level that is subject to a storm surge 5-10+ feet above the levees.
It is like having a city on the slope of a volcano without an eruption evac plan, and arguing that since no other city has one (since no other city is on the side of a volcano) then why should Lavaville have one? Whatever happened to your common sense?
See ya.
He mentioned that years ago before he retired the first time. I think it was when there was that big freeze that trapped many vehicles in upper Indiana and so forth. But I remember him telling stories about it specifically.
