Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

Yes. I saw an interview with a state official and he gave this number and a web address out for the L.A. AG. Reports include price gouging for hotel rooms, refusing to take anything but cash for gas, gas price gouging, and so forth. He is promising prosecutions. The uninvestigated reports extend up to Lafayette.
I'm thinking of "meeting" her train when it goes through NC.
Exactly. This was known to be heading to NO Friday night (even before, really); if they had immediately put out the call to cities even hours away to send buses...they would have! They could have been there early Saturday morning to start hauling people out.
As far as where would they go? Elementary schools, high schools, YMCA's, churches...the list is endlist. Churches, in particular would have gladly embraced the refugees...we wouldn't have had to worry about food, medical care, or anything with churches involved.
I wouldnt want my sleeping bag on the $8 VCR-DVD player aisle.
And they are on the middle floors?
So who are these people I'm watching on their "live stream"??? :) I see the LSU parade ground int he background, they must be in Baton Rouge.
oh? I'm still watching them. They're at LSU with a cheesy green screened background.
"..The WWL people were talking about a 3D map of Katrina or something "
Art Bell just heard from a listerner that WWL wnet off the air at 12:40 central time". Was his listener correct?
Better than the Super Wal-Mart...no gun counter/ammunition in the Sam's Club...at least not in the ones by me...
And just think...all those supplies right within easy reach. Would have to add a couple of port-a-potties out back though...
I've still got WWL.
Night!
And hopefully won't happen this day......;o)
Agreed.
Actually the TV series Quantum Leap did a show on it where Sam dropped in on the party animals.
I think he was talking the AM station.
WWL is broadcasting from another location:

They are running off the KHOU website, but it's only wwl...
Well, that's what I thought. Hurricanes are a reality in those parts. The mayor should have been more decisive earlier on.
all..its time to stop the normal back and forth chatter now and only post "hard news" i think? agree? damage reports/news will now by flying in from NOLA to AL..its hard to filter the reports in all of the "chatter"
Jeff--are you always this contrary, or are you just working overtime tonight? When the mayor finally got around to suggesting people should take this storm seriously, he recommended taking the train out of town--to anywhere.
