Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

There are people on this thread mourning as if the city is completely lost

BS; absolutely not true.

Will you "eat" your words, if this is less than an unmitigated disaster with huge loss of life?

Nobody on this thread has said that; you, on the other hand, are blowing it off.

We shall see soon enough who is right. I hope I'm wrong; somehow I doubt you do.

It looks like NO will get an eyewall at least; they may well also get the eye.

I don't think Shepard is leaving!

I don't either! I hope he doesn't have kids and a wife.

Can someone explain why only 1 in 6 have cars in New Orleans.

Poverty. Housing projects don't have big parking lots. Most middle class people have cars, even those who live in the Quarter. (Need 'em for makin' groceries.)

no not really....

a wobble may explain that, but I think that little jerk on the radar was more of a sign that it is going to the North.

It is a very pronounced move to the North too.

My guess is that Shep and crew have some contingency plans. They have a vehicle and can quickly move to a safer location when they need to.

I figure the streets are going to be pretty empty come nightfall.

The French Quarters is a small part of town, and I think Shep and crew will be able to move out of it when they need to.
