Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Can someone explain why only 1 in 6 have cars in New Orleans. Is there a parking issue like New York or is it a money issue?

Can't Head Honcho at fox send something into to get his reporters or is it too late?

I just can't get over Shep being there. I don't see how he is going to live unless the hurricane moves.

It's a shame that so many in our society have no sense of self reliance or responsibility.

I think that's a little unfair. The people in line at the Superdome seem like they really have no other alternative.

Who expects or plans for a monster like this hurricane?

Fox News like "50,000" casualties... 50% of people stuck/left in New Orleans are children!

Irresponsible on Fox's part in my opinion.

It is the Feds, and they are not paying for three squares a day for 50,000 people. There are probably a number of Restaurants that will not be open for a few days so they will donate food that would otherwise go to waste.

I agree-Janice was too emotional. She will fall to pieces when the hurricane actually hits! There are times I can understand getting overcome with emotion-The Kennedy assassination when the news anchors said The President was dead-they all were in tears.

Thanks, well that's a relief - one disaster scenario not to worry about. Sounds like the reality is going to be bad enough....

Our thoughts exactly. FNC estimates 40% in line are children.

The mayor worried about the legalities of saving lives, so he waiting until this morning to take action. I still cannot comprehend it.

well it means that the lake will be pushed into the city to a certain extent.

If it wobbles closer to NO, the more water from the lake that will make it into the city...

this is a bad dream.

My husband is an architect (MIT trained),.........
There are too many factors in play to feel confident that the Superdome is safe, and we will be praying throughout the storm for the people taking shelter there.

Thank you SO much for that input. It was most interesting!

It does seem to be making the turn north.

PS - can't believe there are no plans to provide transportation out of the NO bowl for those without cars.
