Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Can someone explain why only 1 in 6 have cars in New Orleans. Is there a parking issue like New York or is it a money issue?
Can't Head Honcho at fox send something into to get his reporters or is it too late?
I just can't get over Shep being there. I don't see how he is going to live unless the hurricane moves.
Definitely turned to the north now. Looks to hit the southermost tip of Louisiana right now. Not sure how that fis into the so-called doomsday scenario.
I think that's a little unfair. The people in line at the Superdome seem like they really have no other alternative.
Who expects or plans for a monster like this hurricane?
That sucks, the storm hasn't hit and the lights go out.
"If I say it's safe to surf this beach, it's safe to surf this beach."
Irresponsible on Fox's part in my opinion.
Yep that was pretty neat.
It is the Feds, and they are not paying for three squares a day for 50,000 people. There are probably a number of Restaurants that will not be open for a few days so they will donate food that would otherwise go to waste.
It's very scary to experience.
I agree-Janice was too emotional. She will fall to pieces when the hurricane actually hits! There are times I can understand getting overcome with emotion-The Kennedy assassination when the news anchors said The President was dead-they all were in tears.
I was taken to task for pretty much the same thing. Fortunately, I hope many will be disappointed...
Thanks, well that's a relief - one disaster scenario not to worry about. Sounds like the reality is going to be bad enough....
Our thoughts exactly. FNC estimates 40% in line are children.
The mayor worried about the legalities of saving lives, so he waiting until this morning to take action. I still cannot comprehend it.
Strong feeder band is about to impact New Orleans, probably another 15 minutes
Because Charlie don't surf, right?
well it means that the lake will be pushed into the city to a certain extent.
If it wobbles closer to NO, the more water from the lake that will make it into the city...
this is a bad dream.
Shep, you are the spider in the bathtub early in the morning. The alarm clock just went off. Shep, can you hear the footsteps approaching?
Thank you SO much for that input. It was most interesting!
"NO experimental radar for those that can get it...

I
It does seem to be making the turn north.
PS - can't believe there are no plans to provide transportation out of the NO bowl for those without cars.
Any personal attacks, cursing or racist comments can get you a time out or worse
So think very carefully before hitting the enter key
Got it!
Thanks, now carry on
