Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Last year they dodged one just about this big. You'd think that would get their attention.
Earlier, Fox showed the NG taking water into the dome....
I don't think I'll be able to sleep. :(
I suspect if NO survives this storm, there is going to be a call for a new election for mayor.
I can pray for it anyway...I have known for years about the unique danger to New Orleans if a big one hits..from what I'm hearing, the Mayor just found out yesterday...Good Grief..
The Bourbon Street partying fatalists are hopeless fools.
I'll go check, DJ!
Criminals. NO has a lot of street crime. And I understand the authorities are searching people sheltering in the dome for concealed weapons.
the hotel where Shep is staying has one very unique feature for New Orleans .. its basement is dub oug (as I recall, there's a restaurant/night club below), so that, in essence adds another floor to that hotel... but you couldn't PAY me to be in NO right now, and I am a true NO lover (crime notwithstanding)
Actually, the reason buildings 'explode' during a tornado or high winds, is that the AIR PRESSURE on the outside of the structure is much LOWER than the air pressure on the inside of the structure.
Once the pressure differential between the inside and outside gets too much, the INSIDE AIR PRESSURE pushes the walls and roof OUT. The gas (air) inside has to expand to fill the LOWER PRESSURE OUTSIDE the structure.
If the winds blow hard enough on the Superdome structure and create extremely LOW PRESSURE zones, like wings on a plane create low pressure on the wing and cause it to lift UP, then the SuperDome structure will also create LIFT into the low pressure zone as the internal air pressure (under the wing-roof-walls) reacts to the lift...poof, one dome opens up like a JiffyPop!!
Thank you for checking in. Stay safe, and let us know how things are going in your area.
He's about two Mooses higher than Chief Moose. Plus he's a bit more photogenic than Chief Moose.
Nah, that cant be. We pay our taxes so the government is prepared for an event like this. Dont get excited. Everything is gonna be just fine:) </sarcasm>
First things first, though.
My wife's cousin lives in New Orleans and he told me this afternoon that he's not leaving. I pleaded with him, but he said it was too late (probably true) and that the levees have been improved.
At this point, I just want to wake up and discover that this was all a bad dream.
"It also leaves an ugly red X."
Which if you are on a dial up and really want to see the image anyways...You can just click on the X and load the image.
Not to me.
The last time I checked, hyperbole and Dog Gone were never on the same page.
