Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Did you bring one for everyone on this thread?
Full Disclosure: someone please post that loop of Laurie Dhue blowing "kisses" ;-)
And Keith Olberamm will probably follow. Ugh.
FNC:
Shep -- 1/6th of shops in the French Quarter have covered windows. Bad forecast for us here...
"Latest reports show the hurricane weakening. It is now a marginal Cat 5. Another 5mph drop and it will be downgraded to Cat 4."
Thumbs up. Less is more in this case. Fingers crossed for every edge and advantage nature will let us have on this one.
Is Geraldo going to parachute in?
up from 902 to 904; down to 160 mph; most importantly starting to turn at 89.1 longitude befor reaching the magic 90.0, but still tracking nnw;soon to hit very warm water and may strenthen.
Blank-o:going good; people getting to shelter; we need to be patient and stay calm;Bush has offered prayers and support will probably come and has given us all the support we need;very serious;get to shelters;don't know what will happen tomorrow;we need to keep our wits about us;storm surge could deliver 15-20 ft of water into N.O.;will be praying for tose who stayed behind;gov in B.R.;know we'll suffer property damage, hope no loss of life;contraflow system worked very effectively, kept people moving 24 hours; people responded well;begging people to drive safely;nat'l guard units on stand-by (4000);other states will help;nat'l guard will go in after storm;parishes worked well in staged evacuations;know we lost a lot of wetlands;

Katrina slowing down--bad news
Just doing what I can.
That would certainly be very bad for the people in the Baton Rouge area. We are hoping that it will pass east of NO and spare us the brunt.
I thought it could hold 70,000 people; is that all that showed up?
You don't think that people like Couric wouldn't be happy? They hate the man worse than Michael Moore does. They've got BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) to the max.
OMG say it ain't so - haven't we suffered enough?
I just had the greatest brainstorm!
What if, instead of buying oil from our enemies and terrorists, we could find a place in the good old US of A to pump our OWN oil so we didn't have to depend so much on other countries???
//sarcasm>off//
They were right when they predicted TS winds at the coast in 2-3 hours.
So good to see Bill on our side!
There are no atheists in foxholes either.
Looks like today is Hemmer's first day - Shep just welcomed him aboard. Don't know when he was due to start, but betcha they called him in early to cover this.
thanks, it sounds bad.
Lots of dark clouds here and wind.
Just brought my cats in for the duration.
I don't think there is a degreed engineer here who is worried about a catastrophic failure of the Superdome. (Chime in, if I am wrong!) And I have seen photographs of its construction that show how it is put together. (Couldn't find any on the net, sadly.)
