You take care as Atlanta looks like it's going to get whacked.

My husband thinks I've lost my mind. I'm pacing the house and swearing at the city planners in New Orleans. It's starting to rain and thousands of people have been standing outside the Superdome for 4+ hours now.

This is the plan??? To just let people fend for themselves?

I truly believe that if the president hadn't called the mayor this morning and encouraged an evacuation, he wouldn't have called for one.

Why do ppl wait until *ZERO* hour to leave?

I have no idea. I remember the traffic during hurricane Floyd being backed up for HUNDREDS of miles. Even the secret back roads were parking lots. All hotel rooms go fast.

Vehicles leave New Orleans Sunday morning, Aug. 28, 2005, as Hurricane Katrina approaches. The Louisiana Superdome is shown in the background. Katrina strengthened to a dangerous Category 5 storm on Sunday with 160 mph sustained wind as residents of south Louisiana jammed freeways in a rush to get out of the low-lying region and head inland to higher ground. All hotel rooms go fast.

A friend of mine left Raleigh at 12:30; she got to Greensboro at 9:45.

I begged her to go down to my in-laws in Cary, but she wouldn't.

A state trooper told her the hotels were book solid to KNOXSVILLE!

The band passed. Still no power. Reported it. Odds are if we lost power then the remote terminal providing power for DSL and telephone will run dead by midnight.

So at that point I'm cut off completely. Will hope that they have power and try and conserve my power here.

Good luck to the other freeper knuckleheads who are hunkering down.

Our city in Ohio actually IS in the path..........but not until Wednesday, when hopefully, it will be just rain.

God bless and protect all those as they seek shelter from this monster storm!

Stay safe, good people!

I used to keep my boat in Kemah. Sold it because I got tired of worrying about every d*mn hurricane which entered the Gulf. Still miss it though. Good times on the lake!

I also have my husband's family: father, mother and sister stubbornly staying put uptown N.O. in a second story appt. PLEASE pray for them.

At least they got out of St. Bernard for this one. Please also, anyone who gets any on-the-ground-news, ping me.

God bless, and please stay safe.

I am here! I predicted on August 26 AM, that this girl would be a CAT5, weakening to a CAT4 with landfall near Mobile. She is on a due North heading for the last hour, and will turn to the NE before landfall. I am in West-Central Alabama, which is not good....surrounded by my lovely acres of trees, wondering which ones will survive...

Thanks for the list. I've got several of these on the map. What I need to know is if any of these FReepers are planning to stay in place. Those are the ones that I'm trying to keep track of. If you know which ones are going to ride it out, let me know.
