Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

WWL still showing bumper-to-bumper on the interstates. They're running out of time.

Perhaps some kind of Common Sense 101 needs to taught all over this country.

You forget that we have a public education system under control of the group with the LEAST common sense!

That pick ax comment may just have saved some lives. That and the comment Moose just made about the snakes.

People might be willing to ride out a hurricane, but share a room with a couple hundred snakes, no way.

And the pollution from the sewage backing up, and petroleum products will make it unbearable to be in that city.

But when they clear the roads, what will the people have to come home too? Their houses won't be there.

Three States..Fl, MS and LA..my gawd, we're going to have to all contribute $$$ to help these poor people.

Superdome specs say it can withstand 200 mph winds. Of course, what the specs say and what could happen in the real world may be totally different.

If the levy system fails, there isn't anywhere to pump the water, if the pumps still worked.

Second that. Sally Ann is one of the few organizations that still seems to be uncorrupted.

One Jefferson Parish official mentioned, at the end of the conference, about having to get to bodies...

There are no safe shelters in NO - according to that official and the Red Cross.

Based on your "after Katrina" map of the oil rigs (LOLOL!); my wife and I just went out and filled our gas tanks for $2.46. I have a feeling that will be considered CHEAP in the near future.

The projected path takes it right up the Misissipppi into the Ohio Valley. Major flooding all the way through Pittsburgh, I'd guess.

Major dislocation to river freight traffic, and at harvest time, no?
