Hurricane warnings and watches are posted. Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. The forecast models continue to converge upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this very large and dangerous storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. There have been reports of coastal animals leaving in droves for higher ground. Meanwhile, New Orleans continues to suggest that residents evacuate.

That is why I say some behavior over this borders on criminal.........and the problem is NOT with the feds.
Fox saying many tourists are stuck in town, planning to "ride it out" in their hotels! Up to 100K people in the city with no transportation available.
Joe Lundberg is an excellent forecaster. I met him last month...he's not one to hype so much.
Agreed. I met Joe a couple months ago. He graduated from our local high school and I featured him in my local real estate newspaper. He's a down to earth guy - no hype.
So there is a news team that actually has common sense in a hurricane? Good news.
Wait until they start showing the coffins floating by their cameras. That cemetery is going to give up a LOT of history come tomorrow.
And there is some question about whether massive quantities of water can act as a lubricant or can build up steam/pressure on a fault causing a quake. I've seen that theorized anyway.
Okay, right. Nothing to see here. I'll be prepared to offer congratulations for your insight tomorrow evening.
No kidding. That many people crammed together under stress? No thanks.
I'm off to go visit Mt. St. Helens! Y'all stay safe... back later.
Downtown is also known as the CBD, the Central Business District.
Exactly. People need to learn from the past!

This storm is so unbelievably HUGE--weather alert radio just went off--even Tampa Bay is under a flood watch due to high surf until Tuesday. This is just incredible.
I just Thank Our Lord for President Bush...
I sure hope my fishing friends from Venice are long gone.

I had a strange thought...sorry...
Anyone watching the Presser from Jefferson Parish?
Cremation is our friend.
"Heard the NO mayor say that he "knew President Bush would send us everything we need."
Unbelievable, isn't it?

The only spot I know of in New Orleans that is above sea level is Monkey Hill in Audubon Park. :-)
I am VERY familiar with the shot Fox has been showing ... it's I-10 just as you get within the NO city limits from the airport/Metarie line. Was there last May during a garden-variety heavy rain and that stretch of I-10 (recently rebuilt at something like $4B/mile) was like a dam to the road below. What does worry me is as you take I-10 E to MS, there are very low bridges, and one last year collapsed with an 18 wheeler on it. This is mighty ugly.
