Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part III
NHC-NOAA ^ | 27 August 2005 | NHC-NOAA

Posted on 08/26/2005 10:25:04 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, the forecast models are converging upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. Throughout Friday, the official track forecasts moved west, as Hurricane Katrina delayed making the anticipated northwest turn.

The following links are self-updating.

On the NOAA.gov website, they have the "Mariner's 1-2-3 Rule", and I noticed they've also added a danger spot in the south central Atlantic. Might be something to watch.

I haven't followed along on this; so please forgive me or cuss me out if I ask a stupid question.

Isn't a hurricane in New Orleans supposed to do something like fill up a depression?

(waits to be flamed...)

Would you please grow up and keep this thread on topic and not turn it into another Yankee versus Redneck debate.

Petty bitter people like you make me wish my grandfather never came to America.

WTF is your problem? Yankee verses Redneck? You got to be kidding. I simply paid a complement to a previous poster. Don't be so darn politically correct and paranoid.

I wonder if Dan Rather intends to report on this storm.

He's still waiting for his fax from Kinkos to prove that Bush/Rove are responsible.

Yeah, the city is sorta like a big bowl, and it's surrounded by two big bodies of water on both sides. It's 12 feet below sea level, so if the levees that surround the city break or are overflowed, the city will fill up with a lot of water.

Then why didn't he call for a mandatory evacuation?

They have large pumps to deal with heavy rains, but a storm surge is another story.

Am I hearing this correctly--the mayor of New Orleans is saying he does not have the legal right to declare a mandatory evacuation? I must be missing something here...
