No, it would be catastrophic.
Bye Bye Cindy...The news cycle won't come up for air until the nomination hearings
Prayers for folks down south.
Thank you for the ping! I'm learning a lot about hurricanes and "paths" from these threads.
The titanium plate in Mrs. B's neck does the same thing- naturally, the Docs poo-poo this, but she is more sensitive than the barometer at detecting changes in atmospheric pressure. Kind of like Granny Clampet's "weather cricket..."
Last major Hurricane to make the hit on New Orleans was Betsy in 1965. Celebrated my 1st birthday with the roofing flying off at my grandparents house in a little town of Goodhope.

Mine, too. C-3 thru C-7.
I can't believe Camille isn't in that list of retired names. It was one of the worst I can remember in my lifetime.

Hurricane Katrina Category 3
Louisiana on high alert - Evacuation orders for New Orleans
Wow. Great link, very informative! Thanks!
I've noticed the same thing. Everybody is focusing on Florida, but it looks as though this storm is going to affect New Orleans. I still haven't heard whether the meeting I'm supposed to attend on Monday in New Orleans is going to be cancelled. I talked to a friend (and fellow early riser) in New Orleans a few minutes ago and they haven't even begun to think of evacuating. I'm begging her to bring her family to my house and to leave soon so she doesn't get stuck in that horrible evac. traffic.
I should also have added very scary. Especially the article on the Big One.
Evac. orders for New Orleans? The whole city or the usual "low-lying areas"? My friend who lives there hadn't heard anything about it just half an hour ago. I'm so worried about her because she doesn't like to get out -- got stuck in traffic for 16 hours last year and doesn't want to do it again.
I noticed that the G&C was working while I was standing in line for Sonny Perdue's inauguration. Stood in line for almost two hours on an open, hilltop plaza with 30 degree temperatures, very high humidity, and a sharp wind. It dawned on me after awhile that my knee and my finger weren't killing me . . . ordinarily I would have been in agony 15 minutes after stepping out of the car.
Oh, well, I'd rather not hurt in the cold and tune in FR or the Weather Channel!
Let's hope Katrina isn't the Big One....
Five levels, huh? Ouch! My sympathies to you- she had a disc missing ( worn out, apparently ) at C-5, and the plate is locked to it and the vertibrae above & below it. Six bolts in all, plus bone plugs to fuse them together.
Grim stuff, but it beats being dead or paralyzed.
BTW, her folks family business-- Haase Farm Service- had its start in Sumner, Iowa, many, many years ago.
