Good morning TROOPS!
A certain bird person went missing for a few days.
Here are some clues to her where abouts.

1) I hold the seat of power in my land.
2) The President of the United States has residence here.
3) It's not a State, but a District.
4) I saw the Viet Nam Wall and other monuments.
5) Poets gather there for Conventions!
6) Where was the Convention held??

Because our Military is strong, we are assured, that in America we can do our dreams.
Anyone may write, be free to travel, free to be what our heart desires.

My poem did not win, but I won a door prize to return next year to compete again.

So what did we do the rest of the time??
There was live entertainment, dancing, dining, open mike reading, chatting and making new friends.
I now have friends from New Zealand.

WE PRAY FOR OUR LOVED ONES

We pray, oh Lord, for our loved ones
Far away from us now in a foreign land
Fighting to keep us safe, to keep our way of life.

Let freedom be the sacred promised word
Especially for those children
Now living in these times
Trapped in this violent storm
Called war and terror.

May they be given time to grow up in a world
That will offer them peace and freedom.
Let us now, oh Lord,

Stand firm and strong in our beliefs.

Let we not forget our duty to our homeland,
Our loved ones so far away from loving arms.

For in these, our darkest of days,
We shall endure. We shall stand tall.

We shall be strong. We shall carry on,
Keeping the memory of all those who have
Given their lives, fighting to keep freedom alive.

God Bless all men and women
Over in Iraq this night --
May God Bless and watch over them.

Broken Cisterns

Read:
John 4:9-14

They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water. —Jeremiah 2:13

Bible In One Year: 1 Chronicles 10-13

Picture yourself swinging a pick, digging from dawn to dusk, chiseling a cistern out of the hard, unyielding stone. You stay on the job, working through the biting cold of winter and the blazing heat of summer.

After years of strenuous effort you finally complete the task. Then you step back and wait for your cistern to fill—and it leaks. You discover—too late—that all cisterns, no matter how well constructed, will leak.

The story is a picture of the futility of our attempts to find satisfaction in life. It's an age-old problem.

God told the prophet Jeremiah that His people "have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters." Instead, they had expended their efforts on "broken cisterns that can hold no water" (Jeremiah 2:13).

Are you driven by soul-thirst, yearning for satisfaction? There is a spring of living water, rising from hidden depths, pouring into our hearts, satisfying us even as it makes us thirst for more. Stoop down and drink.

Only God can satisfy your heart. Everything else will deceive and disappoint. "Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst," said Jesus. "But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:14). —David Roper
