I just spoke with SoldiersPrayingMom and Jim Robinson on the caravan about 100 miles out of Yuma. Jim reports the weather is about 108º outside but nice and cool inside his van. Jim reports they are making good time and are on schedule.
Several more vehicles have joined the caravan along the way and they have been well received at all stops. Protesters are always there being obnoxious.
After a good conversation with Jim, he handed me back to SoldiersPrayingMom.
As many of you know, SoldiersPrayingMom (Ruth) is the mother of freeper jmpmst4u2 (Greg), a US soldier working with the Iraqi Wolf Brigade, who has been allowing us share in his "Greg's letters home" by allowing me to post them on FreeRepublic. Jmpmst4u2 has had some remarkable experiences in Iraq.
Yesterday, his mother was meeting up with the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" caravan in Sacramento to ride down to Fresno to join Jim Parkinson for the rest of the tour, when her husband said "Hey, Ruth, that guy over there looks a lot like Greg!" He was right... because it WAS Greg, home for a 14 day leave!
Ruth was in a quandary. Here was her son home to spend some time with his family, and she was on her way to confront Cindy Sheehan in Crawford, TX. After hugs and lots of weeping, she told Greg of her quandary. He said "Mom, I want you to go. I need you to go. The guys over there in Iraq need you to go."
"It was," she said, "the hardest decision I have ever made."
When asked by Marine Moms' Deborah Johns "Why are you here... your son is home for a visit." Ruth replied "I have my orders from my sergeant... I have to go!"
Greg was the man quoted in the AP article on the caravan who confronted the protesters in Sacramento, telling them "You are ruining the morale over there!" (Incidentally, his Mom and Jim did not know about the article... I got to tell them.;^)> )
Ruth reported that she and Deborah Johns were interviewed by this morning in Los Angeles.
God Bless him and his family.
Latest report out of Amarillo: they are due there about one hour from now...!!! Expect a phone call, or try to make one!!!
You're about page is awesome. On another thread someone was asking about poster ideas. You've got a good one:
How about rooting for our side for a change you liberal moron! (Pic of Marine)
If you love freedom, try rooting for some real freedom fighters!
I enjoyed your Dave Berry spot too. I have missed reading him. Hope he starts back soon.
Dang, this whole thing makes me cry! What a great story and God bless each and every one of our military and the good folks that support them!!!!
Weather for Saturday in Crawford is forecast as: Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly cloudy and hot, with a high around 100. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
=====
I expect the humidity will be near the 40% or so it's been running this week. Bring a hat and lots of water or other non or de-caffeinated drink. Be prepared to sweat! But it's for the troops, and y'all can take it.
...
Can't you?
Waco WalMart Parking Lot. I-35 and Shoreline. That's in the north part of Waco on the west side of I-35. Caravan will depart there NET 11:45 AM.
I may be out of it but I didn't know Jim was taking a caravan down. I am thrilled that our side is making sure the press doesn't Viet Nam this war. I am also heartened that elected Democrats are steering clear, because as Rush says, they all have their internal polling and it's probably showing the Sheehanites are thought of as misguided or far worse by the American people.
May everyone on this trip stay safe (and cool?).
I've talked to Mrs ladtx about going, she's pretty PO'd about the Sheehan Circus also. We'll try to make it. Can't promise tho' as I'm still recovering from cancer surgery from a week ago caused by too much sun in years past.
Post of the day?
Seriously, in the post Rathergate world, more average Americans now know that TV news does not equal truth. Back then, the media fooled too many. Strangely, now it's fooling quantities of people ONLY ON THE LEFT. Hmmmmmm...
I assume that's the one in Bellmead.
Whoa. I will keep praying for Greg and his troops. Powerful stories and links. I hope he enjoys his R&R back at home.
Rush WAS talking about FReepers getting involved, just today.
"It takes twoooo, baby, it takes two..."
Crawford, TX and Walter Reed, DC are the front lines.
Talked to Ruth when they stopped in Fresno. What a lady!!! I am in awe of these guys. They are really making an impact. Yahoo!!
We were able to rally with the caravaners when they stopped in Fresno. Huge media turn-out but NATURALLY lousy coverage. Who cares! We drove with the caravan to Kingsburg. It was an honor to be there. Too bad the media didn't give our guys and gals a fair shake . . . but then what else would you expect.
Go, Jim Robinson, et al!!!
72 mansions each with 72 rooms and each room has a virgin, but what do women get?
Jim Rob was only planning to go to Vacaville and back to Fresno with the Caravan, but then Syncro said, "Why don't we go all the way?" Jim did not have an answer and the rest is history-in-the-making.
The Caravan has become a joint effort: "Free Republic ... Moving America Forward!"
Isn't this a great graphic art piece?
