A Third Name Surfaces (Able Danger - Atta)
New York Times via Power Line | 08-22-05 | Unknown

Sticking to, but not penetrating, the wall

The New York Times reports that "an active-duty Navy captain has become the second military officer to come forward publicly to say that a secret defense intelligence program tagged the ringleader of the Sept. 11 attacks as a possible terrorist more than a year before the attacks." According to the officer, Captain Scott Phillpot, "Atta was identified by Able Danger by January-February of 2000." Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer went public with this story last week, stating that analysts in the Able Danger project had been overruled by military lawyers, pursuant to the "wall" erected by the Clinton administration, when they tried to share the program's findings with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2000 in hope of tracking down terror suspects tied to Al Qaeda.

In addition, James Smith, a former employee of a defense contractor, says he helped create a chart in 2000 for the Able Danger program that included Mr. Atta's photograph and name. According to Smith, Atta's name and photograph were obtained through a private researcher in California who was paid to gather the information from contacts in the Middle East. Smith says he retained a copy of the chart for some time, posting it on his office wall at Andrews Air Force Base. Ironically, considering the apparent role of the Clinton administration's wall in this story, Smith recalls that the chart became stuck to his wall at the air base, and was impossible to remove when he switched jobs.

The Defense Department is still saying that it's been unable to validate the assertions made by Lt. Col. Shaffer, and now backed up by Captain Phillpott and Mr. Smith, about the early identification of Mr. Atta.

Nor do I. I used to listen to him as he was the only one on during my drive home, but they've replaced him with Hannity.

The wagons have circled around this story. The big wagons being the Pentagon, Clinton cronies, and the Media.

It is obvious that the truth is on the Lt. Col. - Navy Captain level at the Pentagon, where all the work gets done. Unfortunately, these able and honest people do not own their work. When they go public there's hell to pay with their lives and careers.

What is missing here is the Administration. They should be on our side.

No one has asked the obvious questions: what was Sandy Bergler stealing? We know it was "Secret files"
What were they about? A general topic wouldn't be a security breech.
For whom were they being stolen? Pretty basic questions. Unasked. Unanswered.

This network between the Bush Administration (and Family) and Bill Clinton is plenty curious.

Smith recalls that the chart became stuck to his wall at the air base, and was impossible to remove when he switched jobs.

I wonder how long it took Sandy Berger to get that chart off the wall. Perhaps he used his "Ronco Magic Steamer" to get it loose.

One of the things that bothers me about the Berger fiasco (2003)is that Berger had the archivist call Bubba's lawyer instead of the FBI AND that the whole thing was covered up for a whole year until....

"it got leaked" according to Berger's attorney. When it got leaked, Berger resigned from the Kerry campaign...July 21, 2004.

bump (aside: How did Gordon ever get elected to anything?)

WHY DID BILL CLINTON IGNORE TERRORISM?
Was it simply the constraints of his liberal mindset, or was it something even more threatening to our national security?

Why hillary clinton should never be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office... or any position of power--THE SERIES
REASON 1: MISSUS CLINTON HIRED JAMIE GORELICK

While it is true that The Gorelick Wall was the convenient device of a cowardly self-serving president, The Wall's aiding and abetting of al Qaeda was largely incidental, (the pervasiveness of the clintons' Nobel-Peace-Prize calculus notwithstanding).

The Wall was engineered primarily to protect a corrupt self-serving president. The metastasis of al Qaeda and 9/11 were simply the cost of doing business, clinton-style.

Further confirmation that the Wall was cover for clinton corruption:

  • Gorelick's failure to disclose the fact that she authored the memo that was the efficient cause of 911
  • Gorelick's surreal presence on the 911 commission investigating Gorelick's Justice Department, a maneuver that effectively removes from the universe of witnesses a central witness, Gorelick, even as it uniquely positions a central player, Gorelick, to directly shape the commission's conclusions. (Is there any question which two people are responsible for Gorelick's insertion on the commission?)

Conversely, that it never occurred to anyone on the commission that Gorelick's flagrant conflict of interest renders her presence on the commission beyond farce calls into question the commission's judgment if not its integrity. Washington's mutual protection racket writ large, I suspect....

The Gorelick Wall is consistent with, and an international extension of, two essential acts committed in tandem, Filegate, the simultaneous empowering of the clintons and disemboweling of clinton adversaries, and the clinton Putsch, the firing and replacement of every U.S. attorney extant.

... Once the clintons' own U.S. attorneys were in place, once the opposition was disemboweled by the knowledge that their raw FBI files had been in the possession of the clintons, once domestic law enforcement was effectively blinded to foreign data by Gorelick's Wall, the clintons were free to methodically and seditiously and with impunity auction off America's security, sovereignty and economy to the highest foreign bidder.

What National Geographic Actually Said About The Chart and Atta

“AT THIS AIR FORCE BASE IN TAMPA (Picture of Entrance Gate to MacDill Air Force Base), MEMBERS OF THE U.S. ARMY SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND ARE REVIEWING AN UNUSUAL CHART THAT REPORTEDLY IDENTIFIES BOTH ATTA (picture ID of Atta shown) AND AL-SHEHHI (picture ID of Al-Shehhi shown) AS LIKELY MEMBERS OF AN AL-QAEDA TERROR CELL OPERATING WITHIN THE UNITED STATES. THE OFFICIALS DECIDE THEY CANNOT PASS THIS INFORMATION ALONG TO THE FBI, IN PART BECAUSE THE MEN ARE HOLDING VALID U.S. VISAS AND MAY BE OFF LIMITS FROM INTELLIGENCE GATHERING BY THE MILITARY”. The next segment discussed terrorist training camps in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Slade Gorton was highly aggravated when O'Reilly interviewed him last night. [O'Reilly was like a pussycat because: 1) he didn't do adequate research 2) he didn't want to alienate Gorton so he would come back 3) he was afraid of taking a side and being wrong, or 4) all of the above!]

Gorton was so defensive and so adamant that LTC Schaeffer was not telling the truth that you have to wonder what kind of open mind he held on the investigation. [Too busy defending the commission and Gorelick.]

BTW, the BIG question has always been why Jamie Gorelick was on the commission to begin with, considering her involvement as a major direct cause for blocking the sharing of information. At the least, she should have stepped down and testified on the record. [Yeah right!]

He did OK for a reporter unfamiliar with the facts. He did not do a good interview for someone who should be familiar with both Able Danger and Jamie Gorelick's memo and who touts that he runs a "No Spin" show. He did not refute Gorton's charges that the Able Danger people were caving. [In fact a new one appeared today.] And I have seen Gorton's earlier defense of Jamie Gorelick and it was blatantly a case of the Commission protecting its own.

Good morning.
"Slade Gorton was highly aggravated when O'Reilly interviewed him last night."

I thought he looked like he was on the edge of hysteria the whole time O'Reilly was petting him.

These 9/11 Omission criminals must be terrified.
