Crawford Texas: Secret Service Refuses Anti-War Letter
To Bush; Takes Pro-War Items
Free Press International
by Greg Ericson
8.21.2005

Mimi Evans, spokeswoman for 'Military Families Speak Out'(mfso.org) in Crawford, Texas is reporting that the Secret Service refused their anti-war letter addressed to President Bush but they did take items from the pro-war people there.

NBC News was in Camp Casey this morning but they left today leaving no mainstream media present.

Camp Casey is now comprised of two camps -- one 3 miles away from the Bush Ranch and the other camp is a mile away.

There are about 100 people there now.

Country rock singer Steve Earle performed there this morning with 60's folk singer Joan Baez scheduled to perform tonight.

Author, Liz Carpenter, who served under three President's is expected to arrive in Crawford soon to support the anti-war activists.

ROFL .. now these recycled protestors can pull out their old deja vu .. it's cracking me up.

Folk music legend Joan Baez performs at an anti-war protest camp near U.S. President George W. Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, August 21, 2005. Baez joined anti-war protesters near the ranch on Sunday to meet military families who want troops pulled out of Iraq ...

I think these guys are smart enough to avoid this sort of thing...at least two of the aforementioned (Duran Duran and Billy Idol) have released new albums within the past year and were currently touring. The last thing I think they want is a Linda Ronstadt type backlash. I believe her latest album may have flopped due to her antiwar and anti-Bush, anti-Christian Republican rantings during and after the 2004 election.

I've been to 11 Duran Duran concerts so far since '93, the last time I saw them was a few months ago, and I have never heard any anti-American, leftist, political preaching. Smart guys, and a couple of them are very nice as well.

I attended a Duran Duran concert earlier this year. Simon launched into an anti-war, anti-Bush diatribe. Some in the crowd, including me, booed him. I left early.

The three presidents were Johnson, Ford and Carter. She never served under Clinton. She's not decorative enough. LOL

I believe her song "Diamonds and Rust" was about their affair.

I'll bet I can guess who she thought the rust was.

While I'm not about to agree with Joan Baez, she has the decency to be consistent. She condemned the North Vietnamese invasions of Cambodia and takeover of Laos. She was opposed to the involvement in Kosovo and the bombings of Belgrade, she has been the target of attacks by the Left, like Hanoi Jane, for her consistency.

I've always felt that her beliefs were truly felt and without animus, sort of like Dorothy Day. Unlike a lot of lefty performers, I can still enjoy her music without feeling either guilt or anger.

She condemned the North Vietnamese invasions of Cambodia and takeover of Laos.

I mentioned that Baez was performing and my son said he was surprised. He thought she had spoken out against the actions of the North after the war and had come to realize the US wasn't the only problem over there. I didn't know this about her. It does seem to jibe with what you posted.

I guess it's possible to be against all war, but what I don't understand is the inability to see the bigger picture behind beligerent actions. Why do these protesters not see that freeing women from the Taliban in Afganistan or making it so Iraq doesn't have thousands of innocents in jail anymore is a worthy endeavor? That's the part I don't get. The protestors have all the freedom in the world yet seem unwilling to let others, who might have to gain freedom at the point of a sword, have theirs.

Spoiled brats is what I thought. And most disrespectful to their parents.

To your entire post I would respond, me too. And a similar experience with many of the professors once I got to college and the protesting had long since been over.

Looking at it from that perspective you're right. The sixties caused so much damge to our culture, you could say they're not really over either.

But that wasn't my point, though it may have been yours.

Look at it as a return to the 60's and VM .. that's what it is and a chance to get their wrinkled faces out there again. I'm expecting these troubadours soon

What is Camp Casey?
For one week
my sole source of news has been the BBC
and there has been no mention of 'Camp Casey'.
(Presumably I should be thankful for that)
