Disturbing news on the economy
The Boston Globe ^ | August 21, 2005 | Thomas Oliphant

[...]

It's progressive politicians who should be paying more attention. More than a hundred years ago, Charles Dickens's cockeyed optimist, Wilkins Micawber, explained to David Copperfield that the difference between happiness and misery involves the positive or negative difference between income and expenses.

But progressive politicians have several issues they should raise, particularly long overdue increases in the minimum wage and the earned income tax credit -- kitchen table matters that should not take a backseat to the latest fears about John Roberts.

With corporations sitting on more than a trillion dollars in idle cash, with tax breaks helping create astonishing increases in wealth at the top, the people who make this economy work deserve some cash of their own. They also need it.

"As the government confirmed once again last week, rising costs have outpaced stagnant wages in ten of the last 12 months."

I may be unpopular here for stating this but the above statement is untrue. Incomes (note incomes). have risen by 6.6% over the past year.

correction: progressives = liberal idiots - I do agree however that the minimum wage law should be changed, in fact it should be done away with, there should be no minimum wage law, period!! But of course, liberal idiots, i.e. progessives, will never understand this.....

This morning some MSM presstitute was critical of the new energy policy because it was somehow responsible for the uptick in gasoline prices. As if somehow by a stroke of the pen, Bush was supposed to immediately control energy costs.

I swear some of these idiots must believe that there is a huge control panel in the Oval Office, with dials marked "Gas Price", "Inflation Rate", "Unemployment Level", and "Weather" among others...

"....the people who make this economy work deserve some cash of their own."

Anyone agree with the author that this designation belongs to those making minimum wage or those eligible for the earned income tax credit?

Liberals NO IDEAs NONE of the TIME!

They think raising the Minimum Wage and Higher Taxes will help the economy.

wage growth and income growth are not the same thing.

If wage growth is stagnant, why are tax revenues up so much YR/YR
