"Inspired by the Masai Tribe, MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) is a range of footwear which reestablishes our natural conditions of standing and walking. Establishing these natural conditions with MBT offers high potential for health, beauty, sports, fitness, and therapeutic applications." What a crock but I guess it justifies the price of the shoes.

REAL Masai sandals.. $40.00
Sandals
Additionally, here's another site in KENYA, AFRICA...
Biashara
This site has sandal selections from $25.00 to $40.00 to choose from..
Both sites are genuine articles from Africa, NOT SWITZERLAND.. and sell for 1/10th the price, and actually benefit the economy of Africans..

Fancy Designer Sandals: $234
That's a hefty price for someone who is unemployed.

Those sandals are OK - a little too glitzy, but at least they meet my Rule #1 of fashion sense:
NEVER wear any article of clothing with writing on it.
When did we become a society of walking billboards, advertising on T-shirts, pants with huge labels etc.
I may be showing my age, but I can remember when Ma used to pick through a huge bin of sneakers at Zayres for Keds high-tops at $2.99 a pair.
And we did OK.
Dammit, we walked on the moon!

Manolos? Surely you jest. A real Masai woman would wear sensible flats, perhaps a nice pastel pump for formal rituals. And never trendy rubber urban kayaking shoes.

While searching for those sandals on the Google, I ran into several references to what the Masai really wear..
While kids generally go barefoot, adults are the ones to wear sandals..
Nowadays they are made from tires...
Yep, that's right, they wear those '60's hippie viet-cong tire-tread sandals..
The traditional sandals were just that.. traditional, probably the same style going back to biblical times and beyond..
Basic leather and rawhide, lacquered to "harden" the leather..
The ones I linked to are more for Euros and tourists than the typical african..

I would love to know who is paying this woman under the counter. Also as a typical elitist Socialist, stores like PayLess, Shoe City, and Shoe Carnival are beneath her.

I don't think that I have EVER seen a picture of any Masai wearing shoes or sandals that look like that. The Maasai are excellent cattlemen. They'd probably prefer boots but mostly they go barefoot.
Anyway, I have a better pair of sandals than the Sheehan woman
and I only paid $35.00 for them at Academy.

US$234 for that pair of sandals? Very, very few top-end athletic shoes from Nike and Reebok cost
THAT much.
