Scream Baffles Ohio Town

POSTED: 6:27 pm EDT August 19, 2005
UPDATED: 10:25 am EDT August 20, 2005

LIBERTY, Ohio -- An unusual and noisy mystery has people in a small town north of Middletown on edge, worried and asking questions, News 5’s Brain Hamrick reported.

Liberty, Ohio, is a quiet little community, except for one thing -- the scream.

Jamie Young told Hamrick she heard it while she and her husband were walking one evening.

“It scared me. I didn’t want to finish my walk,” Young said.

But instead of running into her house, she said she recorded the noise and sent a tape to the local newspaper.

"They took a photo of an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake that had to be 10 foot long that was sunbathing across the full length of their driveway,..."

OMG...........what on earth did they do? Kill it, or build a moat around the house, or.........????

My cats didn't react to the audio from the story, but they sure did to your mountain lion link. They started walking around the room looking for the source of the screams.

I wonder if its a Fisher Cat (a member of the weasel family). More about them here: http://www.pusscats.com/Fisher_Cat.htm

The Fisher Cat population has been making a comeback here in Connecticut. They let out a scream that is pretty chilling.

Yes; what I referred to were "reported sightings", usually not confirmed by wildlife officials.

Thanks CB. I was wondering when we'd be hearing from you next. I look forward to your ghost pings.

I didn't think the scream was too scary, but it's the 'not knowing what it is' that's so freaky! Weird!

Thanks for the ping!

I can't get the link in the article to work, but, your link is so cool. I just emailed it to my grandsons who will enjoy it immensely.

We have a bird link that we use to identify birds we hear. On it is a bunch of owl sounds. When I play it, my cat would just arise from a dead slumber to hide and stay hidden a long time. It totally freaked the old boy out.

I vote for peacock.

I've heard peacock screams echoing through the hills. This didn't sound like one of those.
