RIVERSIDE, Calif. - A lawyer who specialized in defending drug suspects was sentenced to more than 16 years in prison for manufacturing methamphetamine at a lab in his Mead Valley home.

Edward Holland Horowitz, 52, was convicted last month of six felony counts and two enhancements, Deputy District Attorney Mark Davison said. Superior Court Judge Judith C. Clark on Thursday sentenced Horowitz to 16 years and four months in prison.

"This is one of the more egregious lab cases that we've seen with regard to the position of the defendant," Davison said. "When you look at the case as a whole, there's really nothing unreasonable about the sentence."

His wife Kristina Rae Horowitz, 53, was convicted on the same charges by a separate jury and she was sentenced Thursday to 12 years and four months in prison.

The couple was convicted of manufacturing, possession and possession of methamphetamine while armed, as well as child endangerment, illegally disposing of toxic waste and being in possession of a firearm while under the influence of drugs.

The couple was arrested in 2002 after investigators found more than six gallons of solution containing methamphetamine at the family home.

Edward Horowitz was admitted to the California state bar in 1988, bar records show. He has faced disciplinary action several times and now faces possible disbarment, Davison said.

"I would be surprised if he is not disbarred. First of all, he's been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude. Second, he can't practice law from prison."

Possible Disbarment?

Am I the only one that sees something horribly wrong here?

It should be Mandatory!

Ooohhh...I guess it's WORSE if you make meth while ARMED.

This guy ought to get a warm reception in prison. The man puts a lot of people away for making dope...then gets caught making dope. Yeah...here soon he'll have to buy stock in Depends. :-)

Not much of a lawyer if he had to supplement his income with drug manufacturing. To stoned to chase ambulances I guess.

The article said he is/was a defense counsel, not a prosecutor.

It's only phrased that way because it's the state bar and not a trial court that will disbar him, and he probably hasn't been before the state bar on this violation yet. Like calling someone an "alleged" criminal until the trial verdict. I don't think there's any doubt that he'll be disbarred.

Now that I've crawled back up to the computer keyboard after having SHRUNK into my boots....I guess it's only proper to admit that it seems I wasn't paying very GOOD ATTENTION when I read the article.

Will he be disbarred for this drug conviction? Unlike other states, CA tends to be liberal here.

Unless it's shown that

look for this guy to get a stiff suspension from practice, to be later readmitted only if he passes drug treatment programs and passes an ethics test.

Heck, if all this occurs before his release from prison, he might even represent some of his cellmates.

My... this is typical. Attorneys are propped by drug money. Drug dealers are very well defended, trouble makers welcome, attorneys are simply on the very top of the food chain when it comes to drug profit.

Is it not against professional ethics for a shyster to be brewing meth? Maybe that is not so in CA.

I didn't know Lawyers were required to have ethics of any kind. The only ethics most of them that I have known is loyalty to the person that will pay them the most money.
