Two Illegal Immigrants Win Arizona Ranch in Court Fight
The New York Times ^ | 08/19/05 | Andrew Pollack

Posted on 08/19/2005 9:25:31 AM PDT by RoyalsFan

By ANDREW POLLACK Published: August 19, 2005 DOUGLAS, Ariz., Aug. 18 - Spent shells litter the ground at what is left of the firing range, and camouflage outfits still hang in a storeroom. Just a few months ago, this ranch was known as Camp Thunderbird, the headquarters of a paramilitary group that promised to use force to keep illegal immigrants from sneaking across the border with Mexico.

Now, in a turnabout, the 70-acre property about two miles from the border is being given to two immigrants whom the group caught trying to enter the United States illegally.

The land transfer is being made to satisfy judgments in a lawsuit in which the immigrants had said that Casey Nethercott, the owner of the ranch and a former leader of the vigilante group Ranch Rescue, had harmed them.

"Certainly it's poetic justice that these undocumented workers own this land," said Morris S. Dees Jr., co-founder and chief trial counsel of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., which represented the immigrants in their lawsuit.

Mr. Dees said the loss of the ranch would "send a pretty important message to those who come to the border to use violence."

"There isn't enough info in this story, if there is a followup or more information I'd appreciate a ping on it. This is unbelievable. What sort of country allows trespassers to seize the home that they trespass on?"

This was caused by the actions of ONE member of Ranch Rescue--a man named Casey Nethercott, whose overall actions in this mess just scream "federal informant" or "agent provocateur."

"... than to treat the problem with the same notable success we've had with the War On Drugs..."

Which sounds quite similar to your comment: "The illegals are coming here for the money. That's just a plain fact. Dry up the money, and the illegal immigration problem just got a whole lot easier to deal with."

Dry up the drug user/demand and drugs wont come.

Problem is Illegal Aliens do not consider whether they are needed or wanted before they begin their little journeys to El Norte. Their only concern is what they want, the proof is everywhere to be seen. A guest worker program alone will never stop them from coming illegally. As others have said plug the hole then bail.

It is the Governments job to control the border. Despite whatever incentives may exist for illegals to come here.

Amen.

All true. And the reasons why they're getting away with it is because Americans not only let them get away with it, but actively encourage it. Do you seriously think these folks would otherwise be headed north in such large numbers? This is not a "Mexican" problem, it's an American one.

No it isn't. Has anyone ever informed you that this is a Federal government problem. They are sworn to protect our borders. They get paid for this, and it's their responsibility to do their job.

Joe and Jane American sitting in North Carolina have no enforcement powers. They are basically helpless to secure our borders. That is the Federal Governments responsibility to do that. Period. End of story.

If the leak in the boat is not stopped and fixed at the source, were all going to sink.

The case was settled by the defense. They probably thought they were going to lose.

Tons of background info. Google "Nethercott" or the Illegal Alien plaintiffs names.

Tancredo opposes the Denver library having books in Spanish because it might encourage "illegal" Hispanics to use the library.

My reasoning for not supporting the Denver libraries going officially "Spanish" is because it will help to keep LEGAL immigrants from having the need to learn English, and then they will never advance. Providing the "press 2 for Spanish" option is a typical liberal 'party of low expectations' maneuver.

What are the odds, if some Americans entered illegally into Mexico and were beaten up, that they would get some mexican land worth 120,000 dollars handed to them by the mexican courts?

I do not believe American Nationals are allowed to own property in Mexico.

Well, you spoke about "Quislings on the thread," so I figured you were man enough to name them. Was I wrong about you, or are there no Quislings on the thread?

My husband has a former coworker who bought a home down there to retire in. I'm not saying it's WISE to own property down there, the government could snatch it away just like (snaps fingers) that on a whim or in the event of political unrest..........(not that property ownership is any more secure in the U.S. with the SCOTUS eminent domain decision).

No Morris, what I think you meant to say is certainly it's a horrific miscarriage of justice that these ILLEGAL ALIENS were allowed to STEAL this land.

At least have the courage of your convictions to call people names directly, rather than playing coy.

The Quislings and other false flag freepers will never quit, because they don't actually believe their own lies. They are strictly here to spew propaganda, with the intention of chipping away at American sovereignty. Therefore it's impossible to defeat them in honest debate, because they are not here to engage in honest debate, but only to tell lies.

Actually, I have far more respect for these honest anti-American members of the Open Borders Lobby, than I do for the false flag freepers who only pretend to be loyal Americans.

What you're suggesting is that they would come here even if there was no money to be made. If that were really true, they wouldn't actually do any work when they got here. But the vast majority of cases, they do work when they get here -- they work their asses off, in fact.

Clearly there's more to the equation than you're letting on....

I thought foreign ownership was limited to inland real estate, no beach front.

I guess we know where you stand, then, when it comes to debating people directly.

If they're making so much here from such well-paying hard work, then how come the county hospitals are scrounging for money to deliver their children and deliver their healthcare?
