But they will continue to allow radical special interest groups to malign and slander the man.

He isn't in yet. Remember how close Thomas was when Nita Totenburg contrived the Anita Hill thing?

I don't believe that for a minute.

I believe that they will use every sleeze tatic, lie, and smear campaign that they can. Just as they are doing now.

Novak already said that there are 60 'hard' GOP votes for Roberts in the Senate.

This is exactly what knowledgeable people on FreeRepublic have been saying for more than a month. This fight is over, and won, from the get-go.

More and more documentation has come out to demonstrate that Judge Roberts has consistently written in many contexts his understanding that the Constitution limits the powers of judges, as it does of all other government officials. It is time for Ann Coulter, and maybe even Joseph Farrah (if he's thinking this week), should write columns taking it all back.

It is time to focus on the next Supreme Court appointment, and the one or two after that. Chief Justice Rehnquist cannot physically last a year longer. Replacing him with a conservative (restrained) Justice will not cahnge the equation on the Court.

The big fight, that the last-ditch Democrats are already planning for, comes when Justice Stevens (age) and/or Jusice Ginsburg (age and cancer) retire. Replacing either of them will have profound effects on the Court's decisions.

Congressman Billybob

Latest column: "The 9/11 9/11 Commission" (Not a Misprint)

i guess it is time to nominate ginsburg for chief justice and fill her position with a hardliner... then laugh at all the documents we can pull on her views...

then, replace her after she 'retires early'

Democrats have decided that unless there is an unexpected development in the weeks ahead, they will not launch a major fight to block the Supreme Court nomination of John G. Roberts Jr....

There's your "Special Circumstances" clause, right there.

It ain't over 'til it's over.

I posted this yesterday...before this article came out:

I, for one, am going to let this whole thing ride while our "best" (facetious warning) Senators are up in the hills of Vermont examining his record.

Seriously, I am going to let it ride. The other side has impaled themselves on the spike of that NARAL ad.

Roberts is in. Just a few skirmishes left is all so that Dems can say they said or did something.
