They fight over the crumbs from other peoples labor, we just bake new pies. I have attempted to explain that to a few people but you would be surprised at some of the depth of ignorence on this issue even on FR.

"Pravda" is Russian for "Truth".
"Isvestia" is Russian for "The News".
The Russians have a saying about these two "news" organizations that I will try to transliterate, then translate.
"S'isvestia nee pravda, s pravda ne'svestia."
"In 'The News' there is no Truth, and in 'The Truth' there is no news."
The Russians ain't as dumb as their press and politicians would like you to think.

It's importent to remember that not all Republicans are conservatives. Most if not all Democrats are liberals. Unfortunately many Republicans are liberals too. Right now we do not have conservative majorities anywhere.

$1/4 trillion probably seems like a lot of money to those who don't have a noticeable economy.

I recently replaced both of my vehicles in a span of three months. If I follow this writer's logic, I must be in SERIOUS financial difficulty.

I'll answer my own THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION: JULY 2005 Nonfarm employment grew by 207,000 in July, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.0 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Depart- ment of Labor reported today. Over the month, payroll employment rose in many service-providing industries. question>

What is The unemployment rate now, somewhere around 5% ? And that is considered to be effectively zero.

Their credibility is lower than that of supermarket tabloid with the cover page breathlessly informing the onlookers that clintons are space aliens. Ah, you speak of Weekly World News, "the world's only reliable newspaper," as it says on its masthead. Not for the faint-hearted or the humor-deficient. Did you catch the one with the wedding pictures of Saddam and Osama? Saddam was in the wedding gown, hairy chest and all, and Osama was the tux-bedecked bridegroom. Hilarious. And timely!

Wow! how scary and I didn't even know about it. I'm glad Pravda is letting us know what our government doesn't want us to know. Sadly, there are probably a lot of Dims who would believe this.

Hell, I trust Pravda more than the Sacramento Bee. They have less of a leftward tilt.

The bad thing about pork is that $1.40 is spent for each dollar used to build highways. I will have to dig around for the link, but if I remember correctly the numbers are from the CBO.

$286 billion / 300 million people / 6 years = $159 / person / year. More than I would like to have the feds spend, but it's not going to make or break the economy.
I figure that I burn about 500 gallons of gas per year. At about $0.20 fed tax / gallon, I pay about $100 in federal gas tax per year. That's at least in the neighborhood of the transportation bill's $159/year.

Therefore, the sum of $400 billion makes a huge sum of money even from the point of view of American financial standards.Yeah.
But we got it. ;-)
To: Rodney King
The purpose of this spending is to provide jobs for millions of more illegal aliens, in order to save Mexico's butt.

The front page of Pravda has some interesting articles, including one about the
tsunami being our fault. Just total insanity.
