A day (actually 2 yrs) in the life of President Bush (8/13/05): many photos

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: While the President, First Lady and the dogs were relaxing at their ranch today two pieces of blog-related news surfaced having nothing to do with his stance on speaking with Iraq War protesters, or his polices, or whether or not Judge Roberts will be confirmed. This news is considerably less political.

You see, The President is now doing one of the hippest things on the planet -- the President is podcasting!

In the meantime, a hoax claiming that the President and a number of his administration officials had been indicted became the #1 search term on the blog indexing service Technorati today. This is an example of a new form of political war -- the netwar -- and fellow FReepers should be aware of the ease with which such disinformation can be cooked up and spread. There is no real news, but activists are able to perform culture disinformation and jamming activities which exploit inherent vulnerabilities in search engines.

THE WEEK AHEAD: There were only a few WH press briefings this week, and none yesterday. So no scheduling info is available today.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address, Saturday, August 13, 2005:

The recent violence in Iraq is a grim reminder of the brutal nature of the enemy we face in the war on terror. Our mission in Iraq is tough because the enemy understands the stakes. The terrorists know that a free Iraq in the heart of the Middle East will be a crippling blow to their hateful ideology. And that is why our work in Iraq is a vital part of the war on terror we're waging around the world.

This war on terror arrived on our shores on September the 11th, 2001. Since that day, the terrorists have continued to kill -- in Madrid, Istanbul, Jakarta, Casablanca, Riyadh, Bali, Baghdad, London, and elsewhere. The enemy remains determined to do more harm. The terrorists kill indiscriminately, but with a clear purpose -- they're trying to shake our will. They want to force free nations to retreat so they can topple governments across the Middle East, establish Taliban-like regimes in their place, and turn the Middle East into a launching pad for attacks against free people.

The terrorists cannot defeat us on the battlefield. The only way they can win is if we lose our nerve. That will not happen on my watch. Withdrawing our troops from Iraq prematurely would betray the Iraqi people, and would cause others to question America's commitment to spreading freedom and winning the war on terror. So we will honor the fallen by completing the mission for which they gave their lives, and by doing so we will ensure that freedom and peace prevail.

Yes indeed they do. The MSM spout how secretive the VP is and how he has not released this and that and then to me an incredible amount of information seems to be available from within hours seems like minutes of his annual check-up to his tax returns. Yet still from I understand we never got the full picture of Kerry's finances or medical records for that matter not much of an overview or for that matter Clinton's. Heaven forbid that Hilliary ever becomes President there will be even less hidden behind women's right of privacy etc etc.

Personally I am not that worried or interested in their personnel finance or medical records as long as it is being used legally and they are paying their required amount of tax plus they are fit for serving their country but if one has to declare it then the other should.

One thing that struck me was the charitable donations of the Cheney's they were awesome from a couple that are attacked if not daily but weekly with dreadful lies but quietly behind the scenes they are donating a very large percentage of their income. A large slice of the money he received from Harliburton was also donated/channeled that way.

Part of their charity donations also goes to supporting the troops welfare connected I believe with some medical or social facility in Washington also not that publicized but they have made many visits to injured troops as well.

Yes he is still a very wealthy man but he gave up extreme wealth to come back to Washington and serve his country when probably he would have retired within a few years and now be enjoying the fruits of his distinguished career in the peace and quiet of the Snake River instead of early morning CIA briefs before the majority of us have even woken up.

The President as well of course like all heads of State/Government can never have a real vacation and those protesting should remember that when they are having their fortnight in whereever.

My goodness Dolly you need to get your phone-line/modem sorted even with my dial up it only took about 5 minutes 10 at the most to download the photos.

In this day and age surely with all modern technology a phone company should be able to sort out a mucky line.

THANK YOU ! for posting such great pictures, didn't get a chance to visit FR yesterday. His expressions are really genuine, he's a very touchy type person with everyday Americans and especially with the military. It's really sad that these people like Cindy Sheenan would try and destroy her son's memory. These pictures help restore the faith that we have in this man.

You are so right--very poignant. I think that one time I saw (probably here!)a photo of GWB and Jeb taken when GWB arrived in FL. It seems as though that picture was on 9/10. I remember getting goose bumps when I saw it--none of us had any clue that our world was about to change so drastically. Thanks for posting that picture.

I'm surprised to see the outstreched hands here. I know a few people who regularly attend this event. Let's just say I don't think they voted Republican.

'..they lack the courage to overcome the evil that lives in their own hearts..'

agree, so they attempt to transfer it to the President. But, his faith, goodness and honesty repels their hatred.

ohhhh, snugs, thank you for the beautiful picture of GWB and Robin. I, too, read how protective he became of his mother after Robin died. Imagine....he was conscious of others feelings at such a young age.

picture of freepers looks like it's from yesterday's Freep in Crawford. Freepers came from various states to show support for our troops, our country and our great President. Jeffhead was kind enough to receive phone calls from those who were in attendance and then periodically post updates so we knew how many freepers were there and what was happening. Wished i could have been there.
