PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: While the President, First Lady and the dogs were relaxing at their ranch today two pieces of blog-related news surfaced having nothing to do with his stance on speaking with Iraq War protesters, or his polices, or whether or not Judge Roberts will be confirmed. This news is considerably less political.
You see, The President is now doing one of the hippest things on the planet -- the President is podcasting!
In the meantime, a hoax claiming that the President and a number of his administration officials had been indicted became the #1 search term on the blog indexing service Technorati today. This is an example of a new form of political war -- the netwar -- and fellow FReepers should be aware of the ease with which such disinformation can be cooked up and spread. There is no real news, but activists are able to perform culture disinformation and jamming activities which exploit inherent vulnerabilities in search engines.
THE WEEK AHEAD: There were only a few WH press briefings this week, and none yesterday. So no scheduling info is available today.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address, Saturday, August 13, 2005:
The recent violence in Iraq is a grim reminder of the brutal nature of the enemy we face in the war on terror. Our mission in Iraq is tough because the enemy understands the stakes. The terrorists know that a free Iraq in the heart of the Middle East will be a crippling blow to their hateful ideology. And that is why our work in Iraq is a vital part of the war on terror we're waging around the world.
This war on terror arrived on our shores on September the 11th, 2001. Since that day, the terrorists have continued to kill -- in Madrid, Istanbul, Jakarta, Casablanca, Riyadh, Bali, Baghdad, London, and elsewhere. The enemy remains determined to do more harm. The terrorists kill indiscriminately, but with a clear purpose -- they're trying to shake our will. They want to force free nations to retreat so they can topple governments across the Middle East, establish Taliban-like regimes in their place, and turn the Middle East into a launching pad for attacks against free people.
The terrorists cannot defeat us on the battlefield. The only way they can win is if we lose our nerve. That will not happen on my watch. Withdrawing our troops from Iraq prematurely would betray the Iraqi people, and would cause others to question America's commitment to spreading freedom and winning the war on terror. So we will honor the fallen by completing the mission for which they gave their lives, and by doing so we will ensure that freedom and peace prevail.
I thought the Dims lived below the basement. [snicker]
Dad needs to be make a phone call be back in a while
LOL!!!!! Sub-basement....forgot to add that part! Down in the muck in the sewer line! Can't go low enought to describe them, can we, without getting pretty profane!
9-11--that would be a great, if tear-causing, theme. Be sure to issue a hanky alert when you do it. I wish I could post music; I just heard a couple of songs on the Canteen the other day that just ripped my heart out--one by Enya and one by Enrique Iglesias with people from 9-11 talking over the music.
No, we can't at all. There's another thread running right now with some truly vile comments by the author E.L.Doctorow. In his diatribe, he says, "I fault this president for not knowing what death is."
I responded by reminding everyone who posts or reads that thread, that GWB lost his 4-yr-old sister, Robin, when George was only 8. He learned about death at a young age.
The problem here is that these blow-hards never bother to check the real facts or they don't care about facts--just care about doing their dirty deed of trying to discredit this wonderful, honest, honorable, loving, open, tender-hearted, kind, respectful man.....all traits they would know nothing about!
GWB and Robin
THAT is what they do. I never for a minute assume they don't know what they're doing or are ignorant of the facts. They know exactly what they're doing.
Robin was a doll, wasn't she. And she looked a lot like her older brother George. So sad.
Well, it's nearly 4:30pm here. Time to go do other things. See you all tomorrow.
Yes...yes and yes!!
Oh, I am very aware of that! And our President knows it more than we do! After all, his Mom and Dad had to go through the same cr** and he helped to protect them! But we can't do too much to counter-punch them!
Thanks to you and all the others who do this every day. I
do not normally post just lurk and enjoy. I just wanted to
tell you that the President will throw out the first pitch
tonight at the regional Little League game in Texas tonight.
Hopefully there will be some pics. Again, thanks to all who
do this wonderful thread each day.
This seems strange to me as I would have thought they would have been more available
See you tomorrow wonderful photos great thread well done you have put a lot of work into it.
Good night and give Ricky a pat from me.
Love
Eleanor
Looks like a thunderbolt and lightning hit the Mississippi delegation: "The President stands with Mississippi legislators who switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in the Oval Office, Sept. 2, 2003," all eleven of those who became Pubbies.
I love that last photo where GWB is giving support to troops just about to leave for overseas can you remember were they going to Iraq or Afganistan?
